BIOGRAPHY OF COMMANDER BENNY JOE RICARDO, USN Commander Benny Joe RICARDO was born 22 April 1929 in Port Arthur, Texas, and was graduated from Baylor University with a BBA Degree. After attending Navy schools in Florida and Pennsylvania, he graduated from Officer Candidate School, Class 7, and was commissioned an Ensign on 24 July 1952. His first tour of duty was aboard USS HOOPER ISLAND QARGl7j, where he served as Gunnery Officer and Ist Lieutenant. From August 1954 until January 1955, he attended Combat Information Center Officers, School, NAS Glenview, Illinois. Upon completion of this school, Commander RICARDO was assigned to USS AGERHOLM fDD836j as Gunnery Officer from January 1955 until August 1956, and later served as Fire Control Officer of USS SHANGRI-LA QCVASSQ. In August 1957, he reported to Kaohsiung, Taiwan, as Military Sea Transportation Service Representative. Following this tour of duty, Commander RICARDO assumed command of USS DUNN COUNTY QLST742J from August 1959 until March 1961. In 1961 he was assigned to Fleet Anti-Air Warfare Training Center, San Diego, as Surface Operations Officer. Following this tour he was ordered back to sea as Executive Officer of USS MANATEE QAO58j in March 1963. This was followed by a tour of duty as Executive Officer aboard USS COLLETT QDD730j from July 1964 until March 1966. Commander RICARDO served as Plans Officer, Commander Military Sea Transportation Service, San Francisco from April 1966 until he assumed command of USS FLOYD B. PARKS QDD884j. On October 8, 1969 while the ship was deployed in WESTPAC, Commander RICARDO was relieved as Commanding Officer by Commander James F. DONOVAN. Commander RICARDO is presently serving as Chief of Staff for COMPHIBRON 9. Commander RICARDO has been awarded the following medals: China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal Q2 starsj, National Defense Service Medal Q1 starj, United Nations Service Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Hewas commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve in June 1958 upon graduation from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics. After commissioning Lieutenant Commander ENDTER reported to USS WILHOITF. QDER397Q where he served as ASW Officer and later Weapons Officer. From 1960 to 1962 he was assigned to the staff of Commander Fleet Training Group Western Pacific where he served as ASW Instructor and administrative assistant until ordered to USS EDSON QDD946j as Weapons Officer in the winter of 1962. While at Fleet Training Group Lieutenant Commander ENDTER was augmented to the U.S. Navy. Two months after reporting to USS EDSON, he became Operations Officer and served in that billet until July 1964 when he was ordered to USS WHITEHURST fDE634Q as Officer in Charge. In May 1967 Lieutenant Commander ENDTER was relieved as Officer in Charge to report as CIC Officer on USS CHICAGO QCGIIQ. During his tour in CHICAGO he was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal. In October 1968 Lieutenant Commander ENDTER was ordered to USS FLOYD B. PARKS and assumed duties as Executive Officer on 22 November 1968. Lieutenant Commander ENDTER is married to the former Cornelia Jeane Endter of Coatesville, Indiana. They have a daughter and two sons who make their home in Clairmont, California.
