t MAYTOWN CONSOLIDATED HIGH SCHOOL 5 Mr. Turner and the Maytown Sound System Above is a picture of the Maytown Central Sound System, office, switch-board, radio, and turn table, about which many people have asked and tor whom this sketch is written. This sound equipment has a two-way talk back system for communication to and from the twenty rooms and three buildings of the May- town school plant. This system is used for gen- eral announcements to the whole school, for announcements to specific rooms, for paging people anywhere within the school plant, for checking the roll call, for checking class work and for general supervision. ln addition, there is o public address system for program use from the chapel platform. Then, too, phono- graph recordings, radio programs or broad- castable school functions can be sent to one or all rooms, The use of the radio can be divided into two functions, One is called the in-school program, the other, the out-of-school pro- gram. ln the in-school program, there is the re- ception of educational programs, such as news casts and Presidential inaugurals. The prepar- ation and broadcast of programs from the stage to the classes and studies in the techni- cal side of radio are also a part of this work. The out-of-school program is designed to stim- ulate the students to use their own home rad- ios by developing an interest in radio programs, by charting programs as to type, time, and station and by interpreting the functions of certain classes of educational broadcasts. ln addition to the above sound system, the school has a I6 mm. sound movie picture pro- jector that most of the teachers think has been very satisfactory from an educational stand- point. There are hundreds of free motion pic- ture films that are highly educational in con- tent. ln addition, the University of Kentucky has a film service library that meets the need of almost any secondary school.
