Golfers Tee Off Our record last year was six wins and two losses. We placed third in New River District, which quali- fied us for the regional tournament. We placed fifth at regional. Ricky Vest, representing Floyd, was the low qualifier (with the best score of the tour- nament) with a score of 74, which qualified him the State tournament New Market where he placed sixth. In Floyd County Golf is a popular sport in the 20- 30 age bracket, but not among high school students. There were only six members on the ' 73 team. There are 3 out of 6 coming back this year, and somebody has to fill the 4 spot. Hopefully Spring ' 74 will find the Golf Team outstanding for the Championship. Baby Buffs End with 4-6 Record The eighth-grade team under the leadership of Coach Harmon was able to combine the key com- ponents of hard work, effort, and ability to make a pretty good showing in the tough New River Dis- trict. Many of the players profited from previous team experience with various types of sandlot ball and thus were already capable of working as a unit. With a year of experience under their belts they are sure to be a welcome addition to next year ' s J.V. team. Harvey Marshall jumps and hooks the ball over for two points. Baby buffs scramble for the ball. Row 1: R. Clower, C. Williams, N. Sumner, D. Boothe, M. Mitchell, D. Eanes, L. Goad, T. Bell. Row 2 — Coach Harmon, L. Manning, S. Janney, F. Claytor, H. Marshall, D. Baker, G. Tolbert, L. Kidd, J. McLean, P. Miller, Mgr. 25

Tennis Anyone ? The tennis team ' s record last year was twelve wins and two losses. This was their best record ever. The doubles team, Larry Sowers and Woody Conner, won first place in district and regional. They went on to win third place at state. The team felt that this was, indeed, significant. In addition to our razzle-dazzle doubles team, one player, Micky Hatcher, made the all district team, and thereby was one of the top six tennis players in the district. Concentrating on the ball, Micky Hatcher re turns with coordination. Opponents and team mates watch Woody Conner return the ball with ease. 1 o i YAMAHA fesf .
