Victory Over Cavaliers Lacking experience and skills, the young Buffs made it up in determination. They didn ' t quit, even though they had a discouraging 1-6 record. Coach Harmon, the eighth grade Coach, stated that if the team stays together and works together as it has in the past, that they will eventually be a winning team. Yes, we have something to be proud of in our eighth graders. They didn ' t quit. That ' s the stuff that real foot- ball players are made of. J.Ys Capture 3 4 Record This year did not hold a winning season for the J.V. ' s. Even though the record was 3-4, the team was still a good one. The j. V. team was strong on running. Harmon, Tolbert, and Wuntke combined were explosive. Helms, whose height was a point in our facor, was at end to help with the passing game. Though with an unimpressive record, the Baby Buffs never stopped trying, even when the odds were not in their favor. Determination is the grea- test factor that a team can have in their favor, and the J.V. ' s had it. A great defensive play stops the Cavaliers short of 1st down. For the first time since Floyd went back into the New River District, the basketball team went to the tournament. The season record was 10-10 with several of the games ending with an exciting two or three point spread. Varsity Coach Skip Bishop was named Coach of the Year for the district, and Tony Stuart was the district ' s leading scorer. Other players ranked high in district standings in various categories. The Buffs provided the fans with one of the most exciting seasons ever, keeping support- ers on their feet almost all the time. The fans responded with tremendous support, espe- cially at home games. Their season was an in- spiration to those who believe that hard work, hustle, and determination, combined with support from the fans can total up a good record.
