At times he seems to withdraw into the confines of society, while in reality his ideas and his actions are spilling out in a free and inde- pendent wave. But this flow must be shifted and channeled into the mainstream of life. ve must ht CONTENTS ACTIVITIES HONORS ORGANIZATIONS . SPORTS ROYALTY .. ADMINISTRATION .. CLASSES: 5 ADVERTISEMENTS . NEC a y SF ¢ — The Festivities The 1969-70 Homecoming was one of the most spirited of all those held at Flowing wells. From the first tender flames of the bonfire to the final quiet embers of the dance, there was no question of spirit. It was there. Before his crowning, Perry Gates faced difficult competition with at- tendants Glenn Anderson, Lonnie Catt, Phil Shumway, and Chris Stoltz. Each of the © classes had a day in which to show their enthusiasm. At the assembly on Thursday the Sophomores were cho- sen as the most spirited class. The Juniors were second in the competition while Frosh were third and Seniors were fourth. The assembly was just a preview to the unleash- ed spirit found at the game on Friday night in which the Cabs met the Dorados. on i ‘or mah eT EN ie Christmas It’s a Time of Highly Seasoned Excitement The Christmas season be- gan with the long-awaited arrival of the Junior class rings. On Friday the Modern Dance class opened the an- nual Christmas assembly with their portrayal of life in mo- tion followed by the _ per- formance of holiday tunes by the enthusiastic Concert Band. As a finale, the Chorus offered selections from sea- sonal music. Drama Tames “Shrew” but Also Stumbles December’s productions of “Taming of the Shrew” and “up the Down _ Staircase” characters were portrayed by members of the Drama classes; scenery provided by the Stage- craft classes. In her Spare time, Drama_ teacher, Miss Sharon Mihelich directed the plays. Career Day Innovative Idea Stimulates Career Interest Career Day, 1970, is no longer an idle idea on a scrap of paper. It has happened; it has come alive. Mr. Richard D. diCosola and Mr. John McCormick, together with members of the student body and faculty, have made this possible. Designed to acquaint Flowing Wells students with the occupational and professional fields open to them, CAREERS 1970 offered 25 workshops in which students could ask ques- tions concerning all aspects of a career. Speaking in the keynote assembly, Rep. Morris Udall (D-Ariz.) urged students to make their own decisions for their future Careers. Rodeo Week Renegade Round up Highlight’s Weeks Activities | | A two day holiday was the culmination of an_ exciting week of Cowboy boots and stetsons as Flowing Wells celebrated the Fiesta de Los Vacqueros. It Was the Best of Times; It Was the Worst of Times | Though the price may be high and the times may be rough, the powerful Caballeros are always ready for their des- tiny. Whether it be a great pass or a game-saving tackle, the Caballeros take it all in stride. Sometimes the effort may not seem worth the price, but the out come often sees the Caballeros on top. We see unwary Coach Donaldson re- clining on the practice dum- mies se@ming not to let the strain of everyday practice get him down. In contrast, however, we see Coach Hart as he paces the F.W. sidelines nervously. ABOVE: Coach Engel- hard reminds Pi Schmidt that he has made a costly mistake. RIGHT: G. Anderson, M. The Varsity starters work well as a team, although only one of the five players was on the first team last year. Even though San Manuel had already played several games, the Cabs bounced to victory in their first game of the year. In the second game, the Cabs held the Santa Rita Ea- gles to 29 points, an_all- time low in scoring against Flowing Wells. Against Bue- na, last year’s State Champ- ions, the Cabs played a good defense and in the last few minutes, the ‘Bouncing Beauties’”’ stalled to win the game.
