SUPERIOR AT CCJNTEST! The 1979-80 New Hornet Band thrilled the audience with a new and exciting show last year that earned them a supe- rior rating at contest. The band developed a new style by using the Corps technique, initiated by G. V. Garcia last year. The band originally divided into divisions or auxiliary corps and played in that arrangement during contest, however this year they marched on the field in divisions accentuating each sound for the audience. The Flag Corps, 16 members strong, enhanced the band's performance last year by performing exciting routines including a routine where they actu- ally threw the flags in the air. The Band sailed to Vera Cruz for the fifth year living up to the Mexicans expectations of their performance. ln addition to viewing the exciting sights of Mexico, band members enjoyed an exceptional treat when they arrived in Mexico by way of the Gulf on a Navy ship. Corps style brought out each aspect of the band. 16
