The Parish lies on the western boundary of the state along the beautiful Sabine River, for which it was named. Many, the Parish seat, is only a short distance from several points of historic interest. The 645,120 acres of Sabine Parish are of upland, pine hills, alluvial, and wooded lowlands, as picturesque as they are fruit- ful. Its undulating hummocks, hills, and well-watered valleys have unusual scenic beauty. Prom the time when the first land was placed under cultiva- tion in this Parish up to the present day, cotton has been its most important crop. A superior grade of corn, sugarcane for making syrup, peanuts, sweet and Irish potatoes, and all varie- ties of truck are also produced. The forests of Sabine Parish are of pine, oak, cypress, tupelo gum, and a wide variety of hardwoods. There are a number of sawmills in the Parish. The Kansas City Southern is the principal railroad through Sabine Parish, with the Texas and Pacific running across the Northeast corner. There are thirteen high schools and one grammar school in this Parish with a splendid school system which encourawes an education for all. 4
