Dr. Doak S. Campbell, one of the nation ' s outstanding educators, has served as president of Florida State Univer- sity for the past 14 years. Before coming to Tallahassee, Dr. Campbell was associated with George Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee, for 13 years, first with the Division of Surveys and Field Studies and then as Dean of the Graduate School and Senior College. In 1916 he became vice-president, and later president, of Central College, Con- way, Arkansas. Our President has received national recognition in the academic field for his work with junior colleges and cur- riculum. He was elected in 1921 as secretarv of the Ameri- can Association of Junior Colleges, a position he held for 17 years. In 1937 he was chosen consultant to President Roosevelt ' s Advisory Committee on Education. He is also a past president of the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, and has always been in the fore- front in the development of one of the new trends in higher education, regional education. President Campbell is recognized as one of America ' s leading curriculum authorities and his book, Curriculum Development, under joint authorship with Dr. H. L. Cas- well, has been the most widely used book on this subject. He has been the guiding spirit in the expansion of the University, and one of his principal aims has alwavs been to see Florida State expand and become the finest uni- versity in the South. %.
