f - --ir . iJa tZ. J A n iMJ r | y - ■r . i- ' ::r Celebrating a golden year In Founders ' Week of 1988, the college celebroted the 50th anni- versary of the Hindu Temple and Garden of Meditation at Florida Southern. The beauty of the Hindu tem- ple and garden is often overlooked by those who focus on the archi- tectural genius of Frank Lloyd Wright, yet the garden endures in silence. The temple, a replica of one found in a typical Indian village, weighs nearly 10 tons and is 25 feet high. It was a gift to the college by Bishop Fredrick B. Fisher, a mission- ary to India in the early 1900 ' s. Fisher felt that Florida Southern would be the perfect resting place for a tem- ple that symbolized a rebirth and a development of knowledge. Countless friendships have grown and romances have blos- somed in the garden over the years. It is a haven for those in need of a quiet place to collect their thoughts and a shelter of privacy for a mooonlight talk between couples. So few places on campus can offer this much to students each day and still shine so brightly throughout the years. ? .P ' fl thrit ' ' i msJtf l... -. =i«i ar ia8JK- ' ,. Coming from over 38 states and 16 countries, students come to Southern for many reasons, with the primary being to further their edu- cation. Learning takes place in the classroom, the laboratory or in the form of internships. Some students use their newly acquired skills to help them pay for their college ed- ucation. Others use the time to learn, grow and prepare for the fu- 1 :; , i ' ii ' lg0 ' : y
