Honorary Choncelor Jack M Berry, a leading figure in the citrus industry and a valued contributer to the Citrus Institiue of Florida Southern College, was named 1988 Honorary Chancelor during Founders ' Day cere- monies, February 19, 1988. The naming of an Honorary Chan- celor at Florida Southern began in 1934 when FSC president Ludd M, Spivey be- gan the tradition of celebrating Foun- ders ' Week. As the name inplies, the occasion is one during which the cam- pus community pauses to reflect on the hist ory of the college. Naming an indi- vidual Honorary Chancellor is the high- est moment of the week-long schedule of events. Berry is the largest single grove owner in the state of Florida. His other holdings include Berry Plastics, Berry Ranch in Sarasota County and corru- gated specialty processing facilities. The contributions of Berry and his wife, Ruth, are well known and appreciated throughout the state. Upon naming Berry as Florida Southern ' s 54th Honorary Chancelor, president Robert A. Davis said, Mr. Ber- ry is a worthy successor in a long line of distinguished Chancellors. We were very pleased to name him Honorary Chancelor for 1988. Honorary Chancelor 29
