DUR PRESIDENT PRESIDENT MESSAGE TO THE INTERLACHEN The first time I wrote a message for our Inrerlachen, twenty-eight years ago, scarcely any of our campus buildings existed. It is even more difficult for me to realize that when I wrote that mes- sage scarcely any of the members of the Class of 1953 had come to earth! Whenever I walk across our campus, I think to myself as I see the students of today and the buildings of today how possible it is for environment to undergo rapid change. It is good that this is so, for it is of such stuff as dreams are made on. That we have done so much together indicates, as nothing else can, the spirit o fthe men and women who have walked where and as you have walked, and have cherished, as you have cherished, our College. You and they have shared in the satisfactions known only to builders This year ' s Interlachen symbolizes another milestone in our College ' s splendid ongoing, and I congratulate you whose hearts have been given to its creation, and skills to compilation. On its pages through the years will live our academic hearth and family as it was in 1953, as if, indeed, time had stopped. But we cannot afford the consequences of stopping We must move ahead to fulfill our mutual and dynamic dream — the completion of our building program, and the integration with it of all the those essentials, spiritual and material, which will consecrate and preserve it as the epitome of the educational and architectural ideal. LUDD M. SPIVEY, President 13 ♦
