With frightened eyes we entered the activities of the school. Several members took part in the all-school play. During our Sophomore year our boys continued to excel in the field of sports, and several were initiated into the F” Club. Our annual Freshmen-Sophomore party and also our class picnic were held at the end of the year. Our Junior year brought a sense of responsibility, for we suddenly realized that we had to present a prom for the seniors. With this thought uppermost in our minds, most of our activities were money making events. The Junior Play, LIGHTS OUT, proved to be a great success. Again, because of their outstanding work in football, basketball, and baseball, several more boys were initiated into the “F” Club. As a climax to a successful year, we presented the annual Junior-Senior Prom at the High School Gymnasium. To carry out our theme of MOTHER GOOSE we decorated the dining tables with flowers and candles. The ballroom was lined with characters from the Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes. Then after electing Jerry De Angelo and Mary Nitchen as Head Boy and Head Girl for the coming year we closed the book of our Junior year at Florence High School. Our Senior year started with a feeling of confidence and superiority. Our first big event was the Senior Dance, held at the High School Gym in early November—and very nice it was too, with a theme of A Pretty Girl is Like A Melody.” Second semester was ushered in by our electing Joy Lou Beach and lames Muir as Head Girl and Head Boy. Early in February, the Senior Play, WHAT HAPPENED TO UNCLE, was the hit of the yeai. Three seniors were elected to National Honor Society, several boys to “F” Club—and then Junior-Senior Prom, the very biggest success of the year. Last came Senior Week” with Baccalaureate, Western Day, Class Day, and most important of all. Commencement. And now, as we look back on four years of pleasant memories and happy times, we wish all future FHS graduates the best of everything. Moss ★ First Semester Joe Ruffatti -Loyal Proud -Mary Muir -Robert Cingomelli - September of 1946 ushered sixty green little freshmen into the halls of the Florence High School. Although frightened, we looked forward to what our four years in high school might hold for us. As freshmen, our contest play, A NEW GIRL IN TOWN, won first prize. This gave us our much needed confidence. The sophomores gave us a party so that we could all become better acquainted. Sports were not neglected and we could see a brilliant future for our boys in that field. Already Tom Falgien, Loyal Proud, and Ben Zamarripa had received letters and were initiated into the F” Club. For our second entrance into F.H.S. we had gained a little more confidence. Several of the boys excelled in sports and Olin Renfrew, Gus Vendetti, and Robert Cingomelli were initiated into the “F Club. We must not forget the girls who entered into the activities of Pep Club and G.A.A. Our contest play, JUDY’S JOKE, came in second. This year we gave a party in honor of the “fresh” who had just entered the vast portals of F.H.S. After many delays, late September again found us at FHS. We really had a great responsibility this year for our goal was to make the prom the best ever given. In March we staged our Junior Play, THE RISING SUN, in an effort to gain funds and fame—we did both. This play plus other activities helped us realize that goal—a bigger and better prom. This year Joe Ruffatti, Arthur Solano, Ralph Santarelli, and Milton Smith became “F” Club members. Sports were not the only thing in which we excelled as our class members participated in the various clubs, worked on editorial staffs, and took an active part in musical groups. We now look back on a full and successful year with the memory of a most successful prom still fresh in our minds. So with eyes toward the future and a big year ahead, we await our final entrance into Florence High School. Fearing the peace of his home be disrupted, he thoroughly disapproves of Junior having an orchestra, or for that matter, anything to do with music. This makes a “madhouse” but one of melody, with Junior having secret orchestra rehearsals at his home in the hope that the Stanley Swingsters will be asked to play at a Society Debut of the Austin twins. Grandma, sister, Gladys all help make this an evening of fun, frolic, music and comedy. Things really get interesting when Lloyd’s wife feels insulted about being taken to Carl for approval. The sudden reappearance of Uncle Carl in the hands of his good friend, Frank Miller and a few unexpected phone calls asking for “The Chief” climaxs the situation; not to mention the appearance of a strange woman, a gun-moll, and five thousand stolen dollars.
