It is a land of great variety, of unique opportunities-- because the people have made it that way. It is a modern leader in agriculture, business and in- dustry, education, government, and cultural affairs-- again, becausel the people have made it that way. Yet, the Pee Dee is also an old-fashioned land of chicken bog and barbeque, of bare feet and fishing poles, of dusty roads and wooded lots-- because the people have kept it that way. The very name Pee Dee, de- rived from the tribal name of its original Indian settlers, means something good, smart, expert, or capable. To all its citizens of past and present, who reflect these same quali- ties of goodness, we say thank you for making the Pee Dee what it is today.
