Florence-Darlington Area Technical Education Center evolved from laws passed by the State Legislature in 1963. Contained therein was a provision for creation of an Area Commission whose function it would be to establish policies and review the implementation of those policies. Members of this Commission are from Florence and Darlington Counties. The effectiveness of the Florence-Darlington Area Commission is reflected in the tremendous success and growth of the Center itself. This growth indicates the very positive direction charted by these men. The major trait of their efforts has become constantly expanding programs and facilities. The Commission translates the attitudes and ideas of the community into quality technical education which answers the needs of the area. The Commission members have given tirelessly of their time and talents to insure that the Florence-Darlington Center assumes its place among the best. Their only compensation is the knowledge that they have given Darlington and Florence Counties a program of technical education that will play a leading role in the development of the agricultural, industrial, and business communities of the area. Their concern is genuine and their efforts are undying. No gesture could be more appropriate than to recognize the devotion of these men to the cause of the community and technical education. We salute them for a job well-done. 9
