Golden Oldies Day After a day in bobby socks and duck tails, the student body and members of the faculty filed into the gym to watch an exciting game between the faculty and the seniors. The fans were fixed in their seats cheering their team on during four exasperating quarters. With only seconds left in the game, the seniors were ahead by two points, but John Upton made his way down the court to tie the score and cause the game to go into a three-minute overtime. The faculty was given a second chance to win the game. With each team's final effort, the overtime ended with the score of 60-55 in favor of the faculty. The night had just begun because the dance lay ahead. “Impending Shame’’ with some new members added to the group once again rocked and rolled the evening away. Later the new teen angels, Kim Wilson and Gary Mills, were announced and solo danced to Teen Angel.” From the stroll to the twist, everyone danced until they were tired and exhausted. After the last of the crowd had dispersed, the memories of lipstick, cheering, grease and loud music were left behind them for next year's Golden Oldies Day. 8

Events Promises, promises echoed through the auditorium; it was the day of Student Body President elections and the candidates Emily Bunnell, Kent Burgess, John Kane and Stacy Wells had the long-awaited sweaty palms and dry throats. Each of these candidates did a great job of giving his speech, but only one candidate could win — that candidate was John Kane. Mike Randall, Senior Class President, gave John the oath of office the following week. Retiring Student Body President, Doug Slagley, accepted a plaque presented to him by Mr. Rinehart. VI On March 29, ten girls along with business teachers, Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Smith, attended the Eastern Illinois Business Contest at Newton High School.
