The Flora FHA Sweetheart Dance was held on February 17, 1979 with the theme of ' 'Sharing the Night Together.'1 Deuce played the entertainment for attending couples. Coronation was at 9:30 p.m. Retiring Queen Susan Schwaninger crowned Janet Beard 1979 Sweetheart Queen and all were amused at the performance of Jenny Sapp and John Headlee, flower girl and crown bearer. ' 'You Make Me Feel Like Dancing' Freshman attendant Kendal Evans, and her escort Mike Winka, junior attendant Carla Sehie and her escort Mike Holland, Rhonda Boyer and her escort Gary Burge, Greg Smith escorting retiring Queen Susan Schwaninger, crown bearer Josh Headlee, Queen Janet Beard, and her escort Mike Pickel, flower girl Jennifer Sapp, Jack Etchison escorting first runner-up Lisa Jay, Doug Slagley escorting junior attendant Kelley Evans, and Dave Dulaney escorting sophomore attendant Kathv Brown. 6 Susan Schwaninger crowns 1979 Sweetheart Queen, Janet Beard. Senior's wolf takes first place. The class of 79 won their first float award, as they had the 1st place float entitled I've had Enough.'' The Juniors finished close second with '' Come Sail Away.'' In 3rd place was the sophomores with ' 'We are the Champions,'' followed by the 4th placed freshman float, ' 'Hot Blooded. The FHA came on top in skit competition. Former FHS Spanish teacher, Dorthy Davis, reigned over the parade as the 1978 honorary parade marshall. Juniors sail away with second. Debbie Winka and Lisa Cook working on the sophomore float. ' 'Hey, Seniors are best,'' comments Teresa Mason to Debbie Briscoe and Cathy Phillips. Cheerleaders cheer for a v-i-c-t-o-r-y. Mrs. Dudley's class form the ' 'chain gang.'' 5

From the laughter in halls and the unusual clothes, anyone could tell that 50' s day was here again. That night the Seniors once again tried their best to defeat the Faculty, but they didn't accomplish their goal as the score was Seniors-S3 and Faculty-55. Mr. Upton scored the winning basket in the last few seconds despite the fans cheers for a Senior victory. Mr. Buchanan was top scorer for the Faculty with 18 pts., but Andy McGehee was a tough match as he was top scorer for the Seniors with 19 pts. Next the attention was turned to none other than Impending Shame. What energy the crowd had saved was used to sway to their music. After a few dances and a stroll, the suspense had reached its peak as Lei-sha Fry and Mike Randall were named the 1978-1979 teen-angels. Once again the time had come to turn the clock forward as the night came to a close. The debonair Mr. Baird drove the girls wild dur- Theresa Timm, Carla Luttrell, Sherrie Koehler, Pam Gish, Donna Matlock, and lisa Lane display the new student dress code. Screaming fans flocked in to see the 3rd performance of the indescribable group, Impending Shame. Upton says, ' 'You'll get this ball over my dead body! '' Spencer Cummins was featured in the ' 'Wipe Out'' number performed by Impending Shame. 7
