Homemakers add QI 'heros,' change fiile fo FHA-HERO Since boys were an addition to the Future Homemakers of America this year, the organization was renamed Home Eco- nomics and Related Occupations. Besides starting off the year with a new name, HERO members also began the ritual of initiating new members in both a formal and an informal ceremony. In a new money-making venture, the King Hairy Legs contest, HERO members determined votes at one penny each and honored Greg Hamilton, the winner, at their Christmas pizza party. Another successful money-making event spon- sored by this organization was the annual chili supper in -Ian- uary. Members brought gallons of tomato juice, pounds of hamburger, and scads of pies and cakes to feed the crowd that stood in long lines waiting to be served. Turning the tables, the girls asked the boys to the formal Valentine Dance in February. A mother-daughter style show and tea in May gave the girls opportunities to display their sewing accomplishments, and a spring trip finished off the year for the HERO members. Debbie Thompson presided over the group's activities with the assistance of Peggy Goodzey, vice-president, Brenda Cox, second vice-president, Connie Burgess, secretary, and Renee Cummins, treasurer. Officers elect for next year at- tended an officers training workshop in Peoria one weekend in March. Mrs. Stine, Mrs. Martin, and Miss Patton were co- sponsors of the organization.
