I I PRESENTED BY |i SENIOR CLASS I' FLIPPIN HIGH SCHOOL FLIPPIN, ARKANSAS Compliments of GORDON LUMBER COMPANY Bull Shoals, Arkansas We the class of 1959 dedicate this annual to Mrs. Faye Briggs, teacher and sponsor of our class. She has been ever patient and faithful in instilling character as well as knowledge in those pupils who have come under her influence. She has worked without ceasing for our class and has encouraged us and guided us in all our undertakings. She has rendered every service possible to uphold the spirit of Flippin High School and is a profound example of complete dedication to a career of educating the youth in Arkansas. No words can express our deepest and sincere feelings toward this wonderful person who has so faithfully guided and directed us throughout our high school years. Compliments: FISHERMEN'S INN Fairview, Arkansas SUPERINTENDENTS MESSAGE I would like to take this opportunity to congratu- late the Annual staff for a job well-done in organ- izing the content of this year’s Bobcat. I hope that in some way this experience has en- hanced your education. It has been said that Edu- cation is the knowledge of how to use the whole of oneself. Many men use but one or two faculties out of the score with which they are endowed. A man is educated who knows how to make a tool of every faculty - - how to open it, how to keep it sharp, and how to apply it to all practical purposes. Sincerely, Kent Butler It is a genuine pleasure for me to extend to you, the students, my best wishes for success in your school and adult life. I have great faith in you and I sincerely feel that the world will have been made better by your having lived. By exercising the same quality of de- termined effort and sustained interest which has been characteristic of the student body of the Flippin High School, you certainly shall achieve that success. And hope that we may meet again some happy, sunny day. In a higher place than we now stand, Yes, a much higher place than you'll ever find in our fair land. For each of us this is our goal. To find this paradise and rest our soul. But the way is hard and the road is rough. And making the grade takes someone of really stem stuff. That's true of all with that Bobcat spirit in their hearts. So we must remember to take it with us as we depart. And as we go into a new and different phase of life. That spirit is what will hold us up and hold us face its strife. With a smile on our faces and our chins raised high And in our hearts the whisper: ’'Never say die! Then we'll remember how hard it was to learn this rule. And our minds will turn back and see our dear school. Yes, we'll see Flippin High through eyes filled with teaft, We'll never forget those four glorious years And as our Senior Farewell we would like to say: That no matter what we do, we'll do it the Bobcat Way. We started our journey with Mrs. Cora Smith as our first teach- er and thirty-three members. Of the thirty-three only three, Sammy Seawright, Patsy Carrico and Bobby Treat, remained the full twelve years. Those who started with us and left for a period of time are Charles Huddleston, Blanche Wilbanks, James Ray Martin, Wilma Tilley, and Boyle Hurst. These people were gone for only a short time and rejoined our class to finish the journey with us. After several whippings and an apple a day to the teacher we started our sec- ond year with Mrs. Bernice Johnson as our teacher and picked up a new member, no other than Corlis Kirkland, who remained with us for the next eleven years. Mrs. Mary Martin was our third grade teacher and we had no new pupils that year. We started our fourth grade with Mrs. Amber Lack as our teacher and two new pupils, Harvey and Delorse Trivitt. Our fifth year was spent with Mr. Hicks and our sixth with Mrs. Zena Milum. We gained no new pupils, but many fond mem- ories. Our seventh year we started out in full swing with many different teachers and one new pupil, Sharon Braley. Our eighth year was an enjoyable one, then in the ninth grade we began to feel very important as we were high school students. Our tenth year flew by with many good and bad times. Then came our eleventh year with a new classmate, Ann Walton, and Mrs. Faye Briggs as our sponsor. We also lost many dear friends that year. Finally we became the dignified Seniors according to the underclassmen, with a total of thirteen and Mr. Kent Butler and Mrs. Faye Briggs as our sponsors. This is our class history with many fond memories both good and bad for the years we have spent together at Dear Old F. H. S.
