Valentine Party On the cold night of February 13th, a party was given to the Juniors and Seniors by their teacher, Mrs. Burton, at her home to celebrate the coming holiday, St. Valentine's Day. During the evening, many games were played that brought fun to all. The hostess served cold drinks and cookies. The next few minutes were Spent conversing, eating, and drink- ing. As a surprise to Mrs. Burton, the class presented her a Valentine box of assorted candies. All agreed that they should not wait until Valentine season next year before they should have another party. 39

Thanksgiving Play On November 22nd, the fifth and sixth grade pupils presented a Thanksgiving Pageant in the school auditorium. The play depicted the Pilgrims onthe move. The children, both boys and girls, were dressed in Dutch costumes. The stage was decorated with poppies and Dutch windmills. The poppies and mills were made by the children. The first scene took place in Holland. The second was an ocean scene with the children on board the Mayflower. The third scene showed the Pilgrims preparing for the Thanksgiving feast here in America. In the fourth scene, the Pilgrims were seen on their way to church with guns carried on their shoulders and Bibles tucked under their arms. At church the Pilgrims joined in singing the Doxology after which came the Thanksgiving prayer. Sports Flint played Rice in baseball in January. Out and out it was a pretty one-sided game. Flint took the lead eight to nothing in the first inning and kept it in the rest of the game. The Flint boys were pretty confident all through the game. Only once did they ever doubt coming out winners. This was in the second inning when Rice rallied and ran in five scores. Top scorers on our team were Cecil Hickman and Phillip Walker with three each. The only home run of the game was hit by Billy Wilkerson. The final score was 17 to 5. Umpires were Mr. Marrow and Mr. Burns. Rice girls defeated Flint’s volleyball team.
