Halloween Carnival On the Friday night of October 29th, Flint School held their annual Hal- loween Carnival. Each homeroom chose a princess to be a candidate for Queen. The prin- cess then had the privilege of choosing her escort from her class. The candidates were: Princess Ethelene Bain and her escort Jerry Sanders, of the ninth and tenth grades; Princess Rose Marie Jolls, her escort, Clyde Griffin, of the seventh and eighth grades; Princess Jo Dell Stevens, her escort, Paul Hayes, of the fifth and sixth grades; Princess Sandra Norris, her escort, Derrel Bledsoe of the third and fourth grades; Princess Carolyn Carter, her escort, Jimmy Hayden of the first and second grades. The winner was decided upon according to the highest amount of votes re- ceived at a penny a vote. The elementary grades presented a short program preceeding the coro- nation of the Queen. Princess Rose Marie Jolls was crowned Queen with a total of 1,034 votes. Runner up was Princess Carolyn Carter with a total of 1,024 votes. Following the coronation, the Queen and her court were entertained by Misses Patsy and Yvonne Harris. The young ladies presented a twin tap rou- tine. — Other activities in conclusion to the program were: the cake walk, the spook house, bingo, pitch-a-penny, and fish pond. Refreshments were served in the cafeteria. Sadie Hawkins Day To celebrate Sadie Hawkins Day, the Juniors and Seniors had the usual Sadie Hawkins Day Race. The boys and girls were dressed as different characters in the Li’l Abner comic strip. The boys got off to a head start but each girl finally caught a boy. When a girl caught a boy and dragged him across the finish line, he was to escort her to a Sadie Hawkins Party that night at the home of their teacher, Mrs. Burton. The girls and their escorts were as follows: Barbara Barnes-Billy Wilkenson; Ethelene Bain-Jerry Sanders; Maurine Garner-Harold Willis; Deloros Matheney-Phillip Walker; Shirley Walker-T. A. Carter; Betty Huts on-Carroll McKinney; Dorothy Fletcher-James Cummings. At the party the Juniors and Seniors selected the couple that looked like the characters they were imitating. The couple selected was Barbara Barnes as Daisy Mae and Billy Wilkerson as Li'l Abner. Games were played and refreshments were served to the students. At the conclusion of the even- ing, thanks were showered on their teacher as a most enjoyable evening came to an end. a

Thanksgiving Play On November 22nd, the fifth and sixth grade pupils presented a Thanksgiving Pageant in the school auditorium. The play depicted the Pilgrims onthe move. The children, both boys and girls, were dressed in Dutch costumes. The stage was decorated with poppies and Dutch windmills. The poppies and mills were made by the children. The first scene took place in Holland. The second was an ocean scene with the children on board the Mayflower. The third scene showed the Pilgrims preparing for the Thanksgiving feast here in America. In the fourth scene, the Pilgrims were seen on their way to church with guns carried on their shoulders and Bibles tucked under their arms. At church the Pilgrims joined in singing the Doxology after which came the Thanksgiving prayer. Sports Flint played Rice in baseball in January. Out and out it was a pretty one-sided game. Flint took the lead eight to nothing in the first inning and kept it in the rest of the game. The Flint boys were pretty confident all through the game. Only once did they ever doubt coming out winners. This was in the second inning when Rice rallied and ran in five scores. Top scorers on our team were Cecil Hickman and Phillip Walker with three each. The only home run of the game was hit by Billy Wilkerson. The final score was 17 to 5. Umpires were Mr. Marrow and Mr. Burns. Rice girls defeated Flint’s volleyball team.
