'87 Freshman trip: Soviet connection in Washington When the 1987 freshmen class heard about going to Washington D. C.. they didn't know the kind of excitement that awaited them Mr. Davidek and Mr Cybulski chaperoned forty students on a trip that they will never forget. Why? Mr. Davidek and his group were invited to the Soviet Embassy. There, he received a personal message and an autographed book from a representative of Mikhail Gorbachev. That wasn't the only excitement. Even though it was cold and rainy, the group toured the city, its monuments, museums, and other places of interest. A highlight was visiting the U. S. Naval Academy in Annap- olis. After the trip, everyone was worn out, tired, and cranky, but all agreed that they had one of the best times of their lives. 14 Washington D C.
