Surprises, Awards, And Everyone is anxious to start the senior Commencement activities. The Senior Commencement was on June 9. 1984 in the Academy gymnasium. Eighty-nine seniors were honored in the commencement exercise. Seven seniors had the privilege of graduating with high distinction, (3.5-4.0 grade point average) and thirteen seniors were recognized for graduating with distinction (3.0-3.4 grade point average). The softball, track, base- ball, and tennis team met with their fam- ilies and coaches at Flushing Park to give away awards and trophies. The following are a few of the awards given out for outstanding performance. Outstanding Sportsman 1984 for tennis was Steve White. Scholastic Athlete went to Todd Smith and Lynn Zoll. Most Improved were Chris Warmbold and Rick Warbold. Coaches Award went to Jo Ellen Darling- ton and Mike Franklin. The Eagle of the Season for softball was Thelma Koger. The Eagle of the season for boys’ track was Larry Hawthorne and Benard Cole, while the Eagle of the Season for girls' track was Alvita Rouser. A surprise gill to Mr Whiteley from the senior class-a belly-dancer, makes sure that she has his attention. 12 Commencement

Inconsistent Play Proves To Be Downfall Of Year Coach Kiewit! tells the team the starting lineup before a game against Flint Nothern The 1984 baseball team was incon- sistent throughout the season. The team had a potent offensive attack but seemed weak on the pitching staff. Captain Andre Adams led the offensive attack in almost every category and was the Most Valuable Player on the team. The team had an unusual amount of bad luck dur- ing the year when several times they lost games in the last inning. Poor defense accounted for these losses. The bright side of the season was the occasional offensive punch by the team. They scored sixteen runs against Hamady and twenty-two runs against Flint Nothern for two wins. The win against Flint Northern was the first Academy baseball win against a class A school ever. The team was good when it wanted to be They didn't seem enthusiastic enough on the field and their record reflected it. Hilling a line drive single up the middle is John Fournier is the best pitcher on the stall based Steve Dulon. on his pitching record 14 Varsity Baseball
