Mary Stewart looks tired of Washington's red tape The ninth grade Civics students visited Washington, D.C., our nation's capital. There they honored the tombs of the un- known soldier and John F. Kennedy at Arlington National Cemetery. They also visited George Washington's home, Mt. Vernon, the House of Representatives and Senate chambers. Students Enjoy A Break Students in back of Carter's Grove Plantation rest after the tour. Academy students visited the colonial town of Williamsburg. Williamsburg was the former capital of Virginia that was restored to its original appearance in the eighteenth century. The students enjoyed portraying citizens of Williamsburg pre- senting a petition to the governor. They also learned how candles, tools, and food were prepared in that period. In Wil- liamsburg, students acquired historical knowledge as well as having a good time for three days. LeeAnn baker demonstrates the art of candlemaking Veda DeVaughn, Jeanine Mumford, Jackie Hopkson. and Angela Richardson pose for a picture at Busch Gardens. 8 Student Life A stock that was once used for punishment by the Puri- tans is fun for Darius Wright and Michael Jahr.
