MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR Another year has come and gone. For many it is the last year of high school. But for others, still years of high school are left. To everyone high school holds its own special happiness and memories. We, the staff, hope that this year ' s Flinonian will keep alive the memories of high school days. As editor of the 1963-64 Flinonian, I would like to thank my staff for being so co-operative and willing to work so diligently for the yearbook. Good luck to next year ' s editor. 3

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL The Hapnot School Staff, as well as myself, wish to extend congratulations to the graduates, who this year completed Grade Twelve. We realize a lot of hard work, personal sacrifice, and self-discipline have brought you to the point you have reached today. But nothing great or good is ever accomplished save at the cost of sacrifice and self abnegation, and in retrospect, perhaps you will realize that the happiest times were not always at some social event, but oc¬ casionally when you lost yourself in some creative task at school. We would urge you to continue your education at the University level. The trend today is for a a greater degree of education. Industry today selects students with an eye to their education attain¬ ments. As a result we find graduates of engineering taking an additional course in business adminstra- tion; arts or science graduates taking a Bachelor or Master of Education; or a doctor or nurse seeking further specialized study at the completion of their course. Education is important, but individuals as well as nations today are judged not only by their achievements in the field of scient ific research and accomplishment but by the character of their people and their public men. We are respected for our ideals and the measure in which we achieve them. Truth, reason, and freedom must be upheld by individuals and nations if civilization is to endure. John Galsworthy said, The old order changeth, - yea, but we ought to be able to preserve beauty and dignity and the sense of service and manners - things that have come very slowly, and can be made to vanish very fast if we are not set on preserving them somehow. So the best wishes go with you into this world of turmoil and work. Some of you are gifted in the field of science; some in the realm of business; some in the realm of art or music; and some in the realm of ideas and literature. Give it your best effort. Carlyle once said this was the great law of culture; Let each become all that he was created capable of being, expand, if possible, to his full growth. ft
