To the Juniors we leave Mrs. Croft’s Senior English, which we are sure you will enjoy, and our promptness of attendance to classes, hoping you will get there for the last ten minutes. To the Sophomores we leave our good ability to get along with our fellow classmen. To the Freshmen we leave our excellent conduct and our ‘‘A’’ averages hoping you will make the honor roll at least once in the years of ’53 and 754. The individual members of the class wish to make known the following bequests: I, Helen Barnwell, do bequeath my stage career to Ethel Wilkie hoping she will succeed as clown of Ringling Brothers Circus in the years to come. I, Nickie Pressley, leave my continued excuses for class tardiness, and my habitual argu- ing with the teachers to Richard Buckner, A.J. Cunningham, and Jack Youngblood. Jewel Watkins, do will my long hair and my brains to Evelyn Owensby. I, Graden Souther, do leave my good basketball playing to F.G. Barnette, L.M. Bagwell, and Alvin Walker hoping they will make the team in the near future. I, Betty Ruth Silver, do leave my sweet and quiet ways to Peggy Gillis. I, Jo Anne Raines, do leave my big mouth and my ability to make A’s on tests to John Ann Howell and Johnny Frisby, hoping the halls will be a little quieter next year. I, Earl Garren, do will my promptness of handing in my homework on time and my joke telling to Paul Guinn and Buddy Calton. I, Wilma Owensby, do leave my love of chemistry and my wise cracks to Bernice Fletcher and Sarah Garren. I, Jack Holt, do will my muscular body to David Raines and James Barnwell. I, Marie West, will my shyness and pleasant ways to Marie Buckner and Shirley Henderson. I, Lewis Barnwell, leave my responsibility as treasurer of the Senior Class and my in- telligence to J.B. Millard and Bob Jackson. I, Kathleen Garren, will my stylish hair cutand my shapely figure to Mary Ellen Bagwell. I, Ruth Moore, do leave my singing ability and my good English grades to Doris Jones and Marie Fletcher. ; I, Norma Ingle, do will my athletic ways and my friendliness to Helen Moore. I, Doris Israel, do will my talkativeness and my helpfulness of others to Nita Hyatt. I, Joe Wier, do leave my love for girls and my soliciting of ads for the 1953 annual to T.J. Ballard and Joe Lance. I, Sarah Bagwell, do bequeath my sense of humor and my mischievous ways to Eugene Wilkie and Charles Hendley. I, Margaret Pack, do bequeath my liveliness and my dumb qualities to Don Youngblood and Noel Reid. And now alas, we, the Seniors, do leave. In witness whereof we have subscribed our signature. _— wd Boe SPhtwe d lilho Dorwou! pe Gin ChE Sti Zoe Class Prophecy Ten years hence, in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred sixty three, the noted doctor, namely Lewis Barnwell, of the densely populated township of Hoopers Creek, has decided as his experiment of the year to try desperately to examine the students, who called themselves Seniors in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred fifty three. As he attempts to grasp his futurescope, he first catches a glimpse of none other than our great lover, Nick Pressley, who became a hero of Heart Break Ridge, and is now on the staff of General Mark Clark. Helen Barnwell has finally achieved her success in dramatics. She is now chief usherette at the Plaza Theatre in Asheville. Betty Ruth Silver andher husband, Vernon, have purchased a mountain. resort, the Silvery Inn, located at Naples, N. C. and cordially welcome any of her 1953 classmates to vacation here. Our husky hunk of a man, Jack Holt, has taken Jungle Boy’s place in the wrestling matches and appears weekly over WXYZ television. Alas! Hold everything! Dr. Barnwell has caught a glimpse of another ’53 Senior, who appears to be Norma Ingle. She is teacher of physical education at Fletcher High School in the elementary grades spending her whole day in the wonderful new elementary gymnasium. She also has some able help in her husband, J. V. who has taken the place of Mr. Joe Francis, as teacher of agriculture. Could that be the one time quiet girl, Marie West, whom Dr. Barnwell now sees? Certainly and she is painting the town red with her present husband, having had six temporary marriages previous to this. However, Marie has inherited fortunes from these previous marriages. As Dr. Barnwell settles back into his old easy chair, calmly he looks upon the new proprietor of K Y Trucking Lines in Fletcher, namely Graden Souther. Graden, after many attempts as pilot for the Delta Air Lines, finds he makes a better salary as proprietor. The futurescope now dawns on Jewel Watkins, that adorable doll, who has now reached the height of her career asa model. Jewel models used clothing in the Next-to-New Shop on patton Avenue in Asheville. Whom do you think Dr. Barnwell sees now? Yes, it is that hard working girl by the handle of Shirley Henderson. She is head nursetoDr. Dunn, who kills all and cures none. Well, Shirley finally made it. Slowly the futurescope pauses upon the famous comedian of the Colgate Comedy Hour, better known as Earl Garren. As a part time job and hobby as well, Earl is sports announcer for our great World Series baseball games. But after a few more years, Earl is deciding to retire. What to Dr. Barnwell’s eyes should appear but Jo Anne Raines who is employed at the Asheville Stockyard talking the horns off the billy goats. Now Dr. Barnwell’s futurescope turns to Doris Israel who is now employed at the All White Soap Factory whose slogan is ‘‘Don’t let your husband give you that dirty look.’’ And now as Dr. Barnwell gazes into the futurescope, whom should he see but Kathleen Garren who has just won an academy award for her exclusive musical motion picture. Suddenly as Dr. Barnwell attempts to bring another member of the ’53 class into focus, the future- scope begins to vibrate mightily as the scene comes into view. Wilma Jean Owensby is vigorously hitting her punch bag in the swank work-out gymnasium which she occupies. Wilma has become the world’s most noted woman boxer. A bright ray of sun beams across the focus lens and standing in the beam at her new Florida residence Dr. Barnwell sees Sarah Bagwell. Mingledin that beam there are also several little Bag- wells . Ruth Moore is happily married and lives in a little white cottage surrounded by a white picket fence all of which reflect the harmonious spirit of the home. But wait, a small object is seen going around a race track. Oh! it’s Joe Wier, in the Midget Car Races. Joe has joined Joey Chitwood’s races, namely, Joey Chitwook and Joey Wier, Inc. Peering into this enormous futurescope Dr. Barnwell sees that skillful swimmer, who once attemp- ted swimming the English Channel, Margaret Pack. After unhappy success Margie married the Dean of Furman University, Charles Ruth, and is now teaching her 10 children swimming lessons in Mud Creek. : Dr. Barnwell will now have to discontinue this experiment as his eyes have become greatly strained and the fuses are blown out of the futurescope due to examining such an array of genius of ’53.
