Commanding Officer Commander Richard W. Durham United States Navy Commander Durham was raised in Lebanon, Missouri. He is married to the former Ann Louise Crane of Groton, Connecticut. They have two sons, Matthew and Mchael. Commander Durham ' s previous sea duty spans both Pacific and Atlantic fleet commands. His sea assignments have included Executi ve Officer on the USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52); Station Of- ficer in the Reactor Department of USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65); Operations Officer on the USS Barney (DDG 6); and division of- ficer in the Engineering Department on the USS Virginia (CGN 38). Ashore, he has served in the Readiness and Training Division for the Commander, Naval Surface Force United States Pacific Fleet, San Diego, California, as a member of the Nuclear Propul- sion Mobile Training Team. Additionally, he served as a program head for the Director of Theater Air Defense on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C. Commander Durham is a 1978 graduate of the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Science de- gree in Civil Engineering. He received his commission through the NROTC program. He is a graduate of the Naval Post Gradu- ate School, Monterey, California (M.S. Mechanical Engineering) and received a Masters Degree in Military Arts and Sciences from Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (3), and various unit awards.
