LCDR Steve Maynard graduated from Miami University in 1979 and received his commission through the NROTC program after attending Basic Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, Rhode Island. He served as Damage Control Assistant and Navigator on USS MAHAN CDDG 425 from 1979 to 1982. LCDR Maynard was then assigned as an instructor to the NROTC unit at the Ohio State University until late 1984. Upon completion of Department Head School in July 1985, he reported to USS AUBREY FITCH CFFG 345 as Chief Engineer until November 1986. Follow on tours included Destroyer Squadron Eight Material Officer in 1987 and Atlantic Fleet Propulsion Examining Board from 1987 throough 1989. He was then assigned to the Naval War College as a student in the Junior Coarse through November 1990 and the Armed Forces Staff College through March 1991. Upon completion of Prospective Executive Officer School in May 1991, LCDR Maynard reported to USS FLETCHER as Executive Officer in June 1991. LCDR Maynard's personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal Cwith Gold Starb and the Navy Achievement Medal Cwith Gold Starl. He is married to the former Diane Merritt of Middletown, Ohio. They have a daughter, Julie and a son, Stephen. - 1
