Miss Withers, our sponsor, left us during this year and was replaced by Mrs. Cardot in the home economics department. We were very proud that five boys of our class made the varsity basketball team, 1955-56 (Sophomores) Dear Diary: We had survived our fourth year at FHS. With the help of our sponsors, Mrs. Talbott and Mr. Findley, wo began compaigns to raise money for our trip to Washington, D. One of our classmates, Paul Popovich, won many high honors, both for the school and his class. 1956-57 (Juniors) Dear Diary: Fifty-eight students entered the Junior class rooms with Mrs. Piccolo and Mr. Shields as our sponsors. PEP CHIP HISTORY On Wednesday, September 16, 1956, a group of 27 girls met with Mrs Piccolo to ov vr.isa the Flcnington High School's Pep Club and elected officers for the coning year as follows: Pres’..dent-----------Mary Guzzi Vice President--------Laura Trimble Secretary-------------Brenda Guzzi Treasurer-------------Faye llayle We decided that we would have to raise money for our projects for the coming year. We started by having three dances. Our first two dances on January 10th and February 7th were both Record Hops, and our third dance was a Spring Dance by a rock and roll band. These dances brought more than £ 150 to our treasury from which we bought a mattress cover for the sick room, flags for the class rooms, painted the girls restroom and the heaters in all the rooms, and also cler.r.ea the candy room, Brenda Guzzi and Laura Triable were selected as our cheer- leaders. Our sectional games were held at Roosevelt PJilson Gym, the regionals were in the Weslayan Gym at Buckhannon, and the area was at Fairmont. Flemington Was very well represented at all the games. We'll be very sorry to see our cheerleaders and many of our basketball players leave us this year, but we'll be looking forward to seeing the rest of you back in Pep Club next year. We wish the Seniors a happy and successful future. To start, tan year off right we were invited to attend the Mountain State Forest Festival at Elkur.v, on C'coober fourth. 'tie all were very anxious to go and on Friday morning we left school by chartered bus so that we could march in the Grand Feature Parade. On October 26th, we went to West Virginia University for the Mountaineer Day to participate in the massed band presentation prior to the football game. It was a cold day and we were glad to get back to a warm bus. Vie were proud to play for the basketball games, because of the wonderful performance the majorettes gave everyone. We were also proud of the basketball players. For Christmas, we were entertained with a party planned by the Band Boosters. We played a few Christmas carols a3 a part of the evening’s program. Our spring concert was given on April 24th. We had a wonderful time preparing for it and we think that everyone who attended enjoyed it very much. The final event on our schedule, one which we always look forward to, is the Memorial Day Parade held in Grafton on the 30th of May, Band members as pictured (left to right) First Row: Carolyn Spencer Connie Davis Joan Bensky Izetta Kellyf Sue Corder Joanie Stewart Rhea Ball Second Row: Mrs. Jennie Findley Shirley Adams Patti Kittle Mazie Davis Betty Collins Nadine Phelps Sandra Singleton Margaret Kerns Jim Simon Hollis Gregory Jim Powell Joe Isabella Leonard Phelps Jerry Murphy Eugene Turnbull Buddy Ball Third Row: Shirley Frum Peggy Jo McNeff Johnny Mayle Mary Jane Shaga Anna Jane Kinsey Paulette Fleming Bill Goodwin Johnny Colo Calvin Phelps Donnie Kittle Dorothy Glendenning Roberta McCauley Tommy Rein Rod Blake e F.
