Dunn, U.S. Navy, is the son of Maxie and Antoinette Dunn, born in Washington, D.C. He enlisted in the Navy in May 1968 after attending the University of Maryland for two years. While enlisted, he served in the USS SIERRA CAD-135, completed the Navy Nuclear Power Program and attained the rate of Electricians Mate First Class. Attending the University of Washington through the Navy Enlisted Scientific Education Program, he was commissioned as an Ensign in June 1973 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Oceanography. Commander Dunn,s first tour as an officer was in the USS WILTSIE COD-71-61 as Electronics Material Officer and subsequently Damage Control Assistant and Chief Engineer. His next assignment was at Marquette University where he served as Assistant Professor of Naval Science teaching Naval Weapons Systems and Sea Power and Maritime Affairs, with the additional duty 21S NESEP ' ' ' Advisor. In August 1978, he was assigned to the Surface Warfare Department Head Course in Newport, Rhode Island. Up0I1 graduation, he served as Chief Engineer in USS ARTHUR W. RADFORD CDD-9681 until February 1981. His next tour of duty WaS as the first Executive Officer of the USS AQUILA CPHM-45 On August 1983 he was assigned throu h the Personnel Exchange . , g Program to the Canadian Navy Fleet School in Halifax, Nova Scotia as an instructor in tactics. From August 1985 through Januarl' 1986 h d' ' ' ' ' , e stu red at the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia. I Upon Completion of the Prospective Executive Officer course in Newport Rhode Island Commander Dunn served as Executive Officer in USS AINSWORTH QFF-10905 until December 1987. In December 1989 he confpleted a two year tour as a Crisis ACti0I1 and Current Operations Officer at the United States Atlantic Command in Norf lk V' ' ' d ' ' the o , 1rg1n1a, an commenced training as I Prospective Commanding Officer of the USS FLATLEY QFFG-215. He received a Master of Science Degree from Old Dom1I1l0H Universit ' D b 198 ' y in ecem er 9. Commander Dunn relieved Commander Robert V Foley as Commanding Officer, USS FLATLEY CFFG-215 on June 15, 1990. Commander Dunn's awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal N C S Nav , avy ommendation Medal fGold tarl, Y Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and various Sea Service and Unit AwardS- Commander Dunn is married to th f R ' e ormer egina F Del-Colle of Bowie, Maryland. Commander obert .F019Y Commanding Officer 10 June 1988 - 15 June 1990 Commander Foley was born in Brickton, Massachusetts on 23 August 1947. He graduated from the University Of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1969 and after completing Reserve Officer Candidate Training in Newp0f'f, Rhode Island, was commissioned an Ensign in November 1969. He served as First Lieutenant in USS INGRAHM CDD-6941 and Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer in USS MITSCHER CDDG-355 prior to attending U.S. Navy Destroyer School' Graduating in April of 1972 he reported as Operations Officer in USS AYLWIN QFF-10811. Following a short tour 21S an instructor at the Fleet Combat Training Center Atlantic he served as Riverine Patrol Officer in Coastal River Squadron 2. Commander Foley's next assignment was an Engineer Officer in USS PONCE CLPD-155 followed bb' duty as Executive Officer in USS COONTZ QDDG-403. Prior to reporting as Commanding Officer of USS FLATLEY CFFG-211, Commander Foley was Assistant Chief of Staff for Material Readiness and Surface Operations on the Staff of Commander Carrier Group 2. n Commander Foley has served ashore at the Naval Postgraduate School and the National War College in Washington, D.C. He holds a Bachelors Degree in government, a Masters Degree in Public Administration and is a 1985 graduate Of the National War College. Commander Foley commanded USS FLATLEY from 10 June 1988 to 15 June 1990. Commander Foley is authorized to wear the Navy Commendation Medal C2 awardsj, Navy Achievement Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and service and campaign ribbons. Commander Foley is married to the former Andrea Cuenin of Malden, Massachusetts. They have four children, Kevin, Greg, Bridget and Kate. 8
