Energy Crisis Affects FHS Even though our country was threatened with a fuel shortage, the motorcyclists weren't stopped. Every nice morning before school the pack could be seen roaring down the streets of Flandreau. The fuel shortage greatly af- fected many of the FHS students. During the winter, the temperature in the school was turned down to 68°. Many students wore coats to classes to keep warm. After Christmas va- cation, school started an hour later so students wouldn't have to come to school in the dark. The government put daylight savings time into effect in an attempt to cut down energy consumption. 4

Extra-curricular activities play an important part in the lives of students. Dances, concerts, buildings, style shows, plays, and publications are just a few of the outcomes of their involvement. Besides athletics students are able to participate in plays, drill team, paper staff, band, chorus, foren- sics, FHA, FFA, Little Orpheum skits, declam, yearbook staff, and small vocal and instrumental ensembles, to name a few. 3
