The even- ing was started by music from the German Band direct- ed by Louie Otey. The German Singers directed by Mrs. Griffith and the Gateway Singers provided music between the plays. The three plays were Three Phone Calls, Wilbur Takes His Medicine, and Jerry Breaks a Date. The winner of the local contest was Three Phone Calls. Mr. Linder was in charge of the one acts this year. The Local Deciam contest was held on October 24. The participants receiving firsts were: Laurie Bock, oratory, jean Neprud, dramatic; Janis Rahn, humorous; and Ann Armstrong in poetry. Those receiving seconds: Annette Basart, oratory; Donna Dahl, dramatic; Cindy Headrick, poetry; and both Karen Schrier and Darci Dappcn in hum- orous. Mr. George Zuerlein of Dakota State College was the judge. The local first place winners went on to Baltic to partici- pate in District competition. The group was advised by Mrs. Irene Steffensmeier. Other local participants were: Vicki Duncan, Susan Brook, and Cindy Christenson (dramatic). Linda Schweb- ach, Elsie Pray, Calla Hogue, Barb Reinhart, Glenda Stewart, Anita Moore, and Shirley Sneve (humorous). Ramona Powell, Carol Clay, Terry Sutton, and Chuck Sutton (poetry). Three Phone Calls is the humorous story of a four- teen year old girl trying to steal her older sister's boyfriend. Bobby Sox makes three calls to three other boys that would like to go with Margie. The evening that follows is full of laughs for everyone but Margie and Norton. Wilbur Takes His Medicine is about a thirteen year old boy who is being very obnoxious on his father's day off. While trying to give him some caster oil his father ends up taking three doses of it. Jeny Breaks a Date . Mary Johnson is forced into a date with an intelligent and unattractive scientist. She wants to go with her usual date. Jerry makes a wild plan to get rid of the unwanted date. 13
