To Success Care for dancing? The F. H. S. Dance Band can provide the music from a waltz to a cha-cha or twist. Besides playing for numerous public functions during the year the dance band is featured at the band sponsored fund-raiser dance each spring. Any other spare moments during the year are spent preparing solos and en- sembles for the District Music Contest held at Madison, where the band always gives a good showing. Another important event every year to the band is All-State Band. Oie hundred and sixty outstanding musicians are selected from the entire state by tryout to play in this band each year. This year Jean Hass. Janice Ludgate. Mary Ann De Lay, Vera Beach, Betsy Bonde, John Fenner, Pat Vanderhoof and Lloyd Schlp- per were rewarded for their hours of practice with spending three days at Huron participating in this fine organization. 17

Band To keep this band on key is their director Mr. Ron Whalen. Under his direction the band is active throughout the year as both a concert band and as a marching band. During the winter season three concerts are given by the band, two formal and one Pops Con- cert. In the summer, besides giving a weekly concert these minstrals do fine precision marching. Touring the Black Hills, participating in the Days of '76 Celebration, and preforming in several parades and marching contests, winning the trophy at the Tri-State Marching Festival made up the season's itinerary. Harmonious notes are heard from the band not only at the three concerts given during the year but also at sports events, where the band lends its support to the team. At this particular game student director Tom Thorson took over for a short time while Mr. Whalen refereed. 16
