Giovanna Fessia of Turin, Italy, became our first American Field Ser v ic e Exchange Student. After a long journey by train, boat, and bus, she arrived at the home of har foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Kubalak, in September of 1958. The National Honor Society, in conjunction with the school board, the localAmerican Field Service Committee, and student body sponsored this program. An assembly welcoming her was held before l400 stu- dents and faculty in the high school gymnasium. In addition, a dance was held in her honor. In June the entire student body bade farewell to this wonderful Italian girl who lived among them and displayed excellent academic and social qualities. Fund-raising projects were hold in order to provide the necessary contributions to support this program. The S650 needed was raised through a dance, a spaghetti dinner, and some contributions from local businessmen with a donation from the school board. Mr. and Mrs. Kubalak are sincerely thanked for their generousity. They gave of their time, effort, and love in order that Giovanna might have a home away from home. We hope Giovanna and succeeding exchange students will carry back lasting memories of Fitzgerald High School, its students, faculty, and community. 45 registration 1400 registrations! 7000 classes to be scheduled! The traditional painting of a Michigan artist was presented to Superintendent Earl S. Eidt by the class president, Jerrie Swain. Mrs. Grace M.icArthur, the ar- tist, attended the breakfast along with her husband. Carnations, the class flower, were p r e s e nte d to various se- niors. N WASHINGTDN NEW YORK by RAIL A R Spring offers the much awaited senior trip to Washington and New York around the last of May. A year of hard work has helped finance this educational as well as social affair. The senior class raised money by having two dances, a senior revue, football tag sale, bake sale, se- nior play, and producing the yearbook. Individual savings were accumu- lated through their sophomore magazine sale and deposits in the senior bank. All year hard work, then spring and the senior trip! Tired, bedraggled but still going strong, the travelers turn homeward. prom e.
