Dr. Kent Head of Department o larmomes an j The primary objective of the Fine Arts department is to make the students as aware as possible of different art expressions, the art of different historical periods, the styles of great individual artists and to try to give the students grounds for making critical judgements in the arts. The depart- ment tries also to encourage and further the skills of individuals through the use of studio courses, performance groups and independent study in such subjects as Counterpoint and Composition. The Art department members are themselves, creative artists. Dr. Fritz and Mr. Arseneault have had exhibitions of their work; Dr. Kent has published some twenty compositions and Mr. Semerjian has engaged in making transcriptions and band arrangements.

The continuation of the basic course Includes activities such as tennis, archery, badminton, basketball and folk danc- ing. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of a general knowledge of team games ad well as the development of individual skills and the elements of fair play. The primary objective of the Physical Education for Men is the physical, mental, social, and emotional development of the whole man through the medium of selective physical activities. The physical deals with physical conditioning and the development of motor skills. The mental is concerned with the knowledges that are inherent in selected activities, histories, rules, etc. The social and emotional deals with the development of the individual as an individual and in a group.
