President James J. Hammond Captured on these pages of memory and memorabilia are impressions and likenesses, facts and fancies of the college as you have known it. Herein is recorded and preserved views, feelings, impressions — a different set for each of you — formed out of personal identification and experience. So depicted are buildings and places forever reminiscent of situations and associations; the faculty, those timeless Olym- pians who served you and your purposes in varying measures, roles and capacities; the organizations with which you were identified and to which you pledged lasting loyalty; the students with whom you shared dreams, ideals and escapades. Such is your Saxifrage. Time will tell whether it will be simply a record of your undergrad- uate days, a reference in times of nostalgia, the end of a chapter or the end of the book. It is for each of you a lasting contact with all your classmates. Let not your graduation be an ending but along with other alumni, through continued association with your college in personal, social and professional en- deavor, help to write additional memorable chapters in the history of the State College at Fitchburg.
