Left Michelle Haggstrom and Tammy Miner plan' out a ladder diagram of this years class yearbook, (above) Michelle and Tammy pose for a traditional picture at Westfield State College. One Fall Afternoon One summer day in August of 1988, Shifty, Tammy Miner, and Michelle Haggstrom departed for a Yearbook seminar at Westfield State College. While waiting to check into their rooms, they breezed through the itinerary planned for the following three days. When they fi- nally got the keys to their rooms, they carried in enough luggage to last for two weeks. After getting settled, Tammy and Michelle were two of the first people teady to eat. When supper was fin- ished, they enthusiastically set to work on coming up with ideas for a theme. They met with the helpful Arnie Lohmann, their Yearbook consultant, who discussed various opinions and deadlines. The group attended several intense classes deal- ing with layout, copy, and all the other aspects that contribute to the creation of a yearbook. Tammy and Michelle went over and over unlim- ited possibilities and it seemed that the more they thought about the theme, the more overwhelmed they became. As most seminars, these three days were not completely filled with putting together a yearbook. Michelle and Tammy had fun creat- ing theit own ice cream sundaes and watching Good Morning Vietnam in the school's auditorium. Also, dur- ing Monte Catlo night, Shifty en- joyed being a black jack dealer while Tammy and Michelle gambled away their play money. When the seminar came to a close, Tammy, Michelle, and Shifty realized the task that they had ahead of them. Although they left West- field without a definite theme, they knew that they would decide on something sooner or later. It hap- pened on a fall afternoon in year- book. Yearbook members examined the changes in their school and finally came to a conclusion. This small group of students put theit ideas together and arrived at the theme of New and Improved.
