FALL AWARDS BANQGET Although there are two fall sport awards banquets, (one for the football team and one for the cross-country, soccer and field hockey teams), they share many of the same emotions, the ex- citement on the part of those receiving awards and the empti- ness felt by the seniors as they realize the final season is over. At the same time, these banquets are very different. The foot- ball banquet, held at the St. Bernards Activity Center, honored two F.H.S. Alumni: Clarence and Norman May. These men starred in three or four sports in the 40's and have continued their support up to date. Each year special awards such as the Martinez Award, Todd Becker Award, James Meredith and the St. Germain Award are given to outstanding athletes. While J.V. and Freshmen players receive M.V.P. (offensive and defensive) and coaches award. Cheerleading awards were given to the most spirited, most im- proved and M.V.P.'s. On the other hand, the other banquet is more humorous. Coach Ambrose played his usual stand up comedian act. While taking place of the absent soccer coach, Mr. Worthley found difficulty in announcing some of the soccer players names and the field hockey team remembered their one and only win. Coaches Awards, unsung hero, M.V.P. (offensive and defen- sive), most improved and a bird watchers award (given to an outstanding Freshmen harrier) were given to these fine athletes. In each of these banquets a dinner is served and the cer- emonies are under way after the meal. After the coaches rem- inisce on the good and not so good times, each Senior is given a letter jacket displaying their outstanding efforts. — by Kim Troest and Eva Filice Junior Varsity Cheerleading Award Winners: Tobi Root — Most Valuable Player.
