With the high cost of living today, it is practically essential for the average teenager to have a job. There are the basic necessities to think of: food (french fries at Mickey D's), clothing ($100 a month for girls, $50 for guys — at least!) and shelter (the car — to shelter you from Mom's nagging), and of course, saving for college ($5 per month). These all have a way of zapping your paycheck before it's even cashed in. But don't forget the other miscellaneous expenses that tend to pile Sometimes, however, it's not just the money that attracts the teens to a particular job; it is also the valuable experience he can gain from the work. Such is the case for Michelle Brissette. Breezy wants to study veterinary medicine, but for now, she enjoys working at the Animal Hospital, learning first-hand about her future career. f 1 — Michelle Miner cashes in someones lucky winnings with her M-E-G-A-B-U-C-K-S machine. .... Yet another valuable lesson is taught from holding a job at such an early age. Responsibility. Kids that were accustomed to receiving handouts from their parents must now earn their own spending money. In one student's words, With their money, I wouldn't care how I spent it. But with my own — now that I work for it — I think twice about spending. It forces teenagers to learn how to budget their money, a sort of dry-run before they enter the real world of taxes and mortgages. But on the lighter side, jobs are not all work. They also provide endless memories: the new friend on the next register, the food fights when the boss wasn't looking, the college kid who bought a Megabuck from you every week, and finally, who can forget that gorgeous blonde over in produce?! Bill Millea points out the nutritious contents in spaghetti. Karen Bourque and Kelly Pawlak converse on a price check. Student Life 21

It's fun to gossip by the locker says Cassandra Novak to Michele Elliot. Who says you can't pick up girls by your locker? says Ramon Collazo According to the rules, lockers are school property' . Nevertheless, many students treat their lockers as their very own — a home away from home. Some kids will go to extreme lengths to personalize the inside of their lockers. They tote to school rolls of tape, scissors, and plenty of magazine cutouts of beautiful men and women in various stages of undress. Other favorites are, of course, ads for all kinds of alcoholic beverages as well as pictures of famous athletes like Larry Bird or the Refrigerator. But then there are those who refuse to decorate their lockers. They are usually the unfortunate ones who get the sticky lockers that remain stubbornly locked when you are running late. Regardless of whether you got along with your locker or not, don't you have some fond memory of your high school lockers? Will you ever Regardless of whether you got along with your locker or not, don't you have some fond memory of your high school lockers? forget the time you stuck so-and-so in a locker and snapped a cruel picture when you opened it up? Will you ever forget the time when you dropped an anonymous love note in that jock's locker on Valentine's Day ? Will you ever forget sitting around the locker before or after school, just c hatting with the bunch? Will you ever forget this year's combination . . . ? By a quick jump in her locker mild mannered vice president Robin Phaneuf turns into the wet woman. Student Life 23
