Many traditions are associated with the Thanksgiving Dance. Barring a few years with early blizzards, it's always been held on the Friday after Thanksgiving. It has also by tradition been a semi-formal dance. This year was no exception. The girls decked themsleves out in their finest clothes and boys de-mothballed their suits. Another tradition continued this year was that the dance was a Sadie Blen reflects on the evenings activities. Hawkins. The girls finally had a chance to ask their favorite beaus out. Preparations for the dance began on Wednesday immediately following the rally. With the able instruction of Mr. Sullivan, Ms. Manzello, Mrs. Zeiner and Ms. Breau, a bevy of students worked industriously. After a recess for the game, the group reconvened Friday morning to finish the job. The couples began arriving at 7 p.m. They spent the next four hours laughing and dancing to Catch-Five . After the dance many people retired to a meal at Sinagpore. After another filling and wallet emptying meal everyone returned home to dream of the night and cherish the memories. M A Feliz Navidad Hl Santa Claus disguised as Chris Tables were covered with bright Christmas orna- ments (below) And delicious chocolate treats. And for entertainment . . . Santa Claus disguised as Chris Cucchiara came to our town 2 days early this year. There to greet him in Fitchburg High's festive cafeteria were several Special Education students who received Christmas cards from Santa and his elves, Amy Alitalo and Sue LaPointe. Santa's helpers posed for the cameras and spread a contagious light spirit throughout the crowd. In addition to Santa's crew, many members of the Student Council planned activities such as craft and pastry booths and coin games. But, the highlight of the fair was the pie eating contest. Definate excitement! Eager students gathered at the tables each with a master plan to devour their pie. Within seconds, Brian Donelan had flipped his apple pie over and plopped it out of tin onto the table. Several followed suit, and unfortunately Brian and his partner Michele L'Abbe didn't taste the sweet pleasure of victory. Another popular spot was the ice cream sundae stand. Students and teachers alike quickly glued themselves in line waiting for a smooth, cold treat. Most would agree, however, that Doc received the best treat of all when he won the handmade gingerbread house that everyone was admiring. Once again F.H.S. created a holiday spirit at the Christmas Fair. The anticipation for Christmas intensified from that day on-for the many who attended went home with an extra boost of enthusiasm.
