of getting a lifesaver onto another's tooth- pick is much more difficult than one could imagine. The faculty even got involved in this highly skilled competition. All in all, the Senior Reception was quite satisfying. Just about everyone left with a happy Memory to cherish or dirty clothes to wash from the day's rugged activities. If nothing else, I think the Seniors felt closer together than they ever did before. The pressure-free surround- ings seemed to have stimulated a jovial atmosphere. Hopefully, this enthusiastic mood will last throughout the year and reflect on to our underclassmen peers. Debbie Thibodeau does some fancy footwork, (be- low) Stop smiling Joanne, this is war! 13

Leading Pioneers The class of 1985 invested a hundred and fifty dollars into the rock. It took eight gallons of white paint and five gallons of red paint to create that traditional master- piece. Several seniors spent a Sunday afternoon in Septennber painting. Setting up shop, the seniors assembled safety ropes, which later became their only link to life at treacherous moments. As they painted their way down the rock, their goal became more of a challenge as David Cutting, Reggie Achilles, and others demonstrated. Of course, the seniors always mix work with pleasure. Radios blasted and fashion designers let their creativity go wild. They were making red and white hand- prints on old t-shirts, jeans, and sweat- pants in various collages. Just about everyone had someone's autograph on their attire that would become a souvenir. After two coats of paint and five hours later the ROCK was finished. Painters marvelled at their artwork. They auto- graphed it and picked up camp for the long trip down the trail. Leaving with a smile of accomplishment and a story to share, they all joined to become one lead- ing pioneer.
