Summer Better Than Others Last summer many students took advantage of opportunities to leave Fitcnburg. They travelled both within the United States and overseas to vacation or to study. Sue Hannah, accompanied by her mother and brothers, visited family and friends in Hawaii. While there. Sue toured many famous sites (like Diamond Head) and relaxed on Hawaii's tropical beaches. Milton Academy, an academic program, was attended by Polli-Jo Moryl, Marty Keohan, and Karen Pelto. The six week program offered a variety of study majors. Polli chose drama, Marty chose economics, and Karen chose biology. This was also an opportune chance for these three to meet new and interesting people. They all believe that they grew both emotionally and intellectually from the experience. Maureen O'Connell travelled by herself to County Cork, Ireland, where she spent the month of August with an Irish family. During her stay, Maureen learned more about the sports, language, and traditional dance of the country. Other students were not as fortunate, though. Because of various responsibilities, such as summer jobs, band practices, and shaping up for fall sports, they remained in the city. Traditional dancing in the streets i)f Dublin ri Members ot the band practice at Lowe Playground. For example, the fact that school was out of session for the summer did not affect the members of the band. They attended weekly practices. Freshmen, as new members, devoted many hours learning traditional pieces such as Mr. Touchdown. The band continued to prachce all summer in order to ready themselves for the upcoming football season. Despite all of these various activities that keep us busy. Summer is never long enough. bue Hannah with her brother in tropical Hawaii.
