T.G'S RAIDERS Four toots of the whistle and the F.H.S. Band is off and marching. Under the direction of Carlton Thome and assistant Marsha Gil- bride, the Band is comprised of over 1 00 members, includ- ing majorettes, flag squad and cheerleaders. The marching Band is con- stantly being called upon to lead off a July 4th parade or just welcome in the Christ- mas season by ushering Santa down Main Street on a cold December day. Along with parades, the Band also offers a fine half time of enter- tainment at all home football games, performing a variety of formations and routines, rehearsed on those cold Sat- urday mornings. RAH, RAH, RAH Go Banana's! Go Go Bana- na's! Our F.H.S. cheerleaders are a fantastic bunch. There is one thing, however, that many people take for granted — the long hours of practice. Being a cheerleader is not all fun and games. A lot of work goes into the creating, planning, and putting together of routines. Then the cheers are practiced for weeks before being put into action. A good example of this is one routine we never got to see. The cheerleaders had put together a routine to be done at the Thanks- giving rally. However, there were problems with the sound equip- ment and it was canceled. The cheerleaders were very dis- appointed because they had put a lot of time and effort into it. During the summer, the cheer- leaders attend a cheering camp where they learn new cheers, jumps, twists, and pyramids. In the fall the cheerleaders held their own cheering clinic and many area schools attended this function held at the F.H.S. gym. This spring the cheerleaders will be entered in two cheering com- petitions. Because of their great determination they will un- doubtedly come out on top once again.
