1 We, the Class of 1981, wish to invite you to peruse the pages of our photo album. Sometimes we met with success, sometimes with less than excellence as our reward. Stay with us and share our book of memories of our three 4 8 9 14 l Ve, the Class of 1981, wish to dedicate our class album to you, Mr. Bernard Welch, for your unselfish and consistent involvement and dedication to the needs of our class. As our only senior guidance counselor, you have quietly worked to serve all the students in our class — without exception. Thank you, Mr. Welch. Alicia Assimakopoulos Alicia, bright, energetic, vigorously awaits each day with the suprises it may bring. She fills her days with many activities, all the while remaining smiling and happy-go-lucky. By being herself, Alicia lights the spirits of those around her. She certainly will find success in her future. Coiombe Auffrey Como is a quiet and business-oriented student who enjoys reading and listening to music. She was overwhelmed by her first day at Fitchburg High School. Her favorite classes have become Accounting with Mr. Doran and English with Mr. Bahde. Her future plans include going to college and eventually marriage. Christie Aveyard Hiking, jogging, eating, and playing the guitar make Chris happy. The greatest memory of her junior year was beating the seniors in the Jr.-Sr. Relay. Psychology with Ms. Bicoules and Mr. Bahde's Jr. English class have helped Chris prepare for college and her future in psychology. She can be found with many friends from the class of '81 at Friendly's. Field Hockey 2,3,4; Indoor Track 2,3,4; Booster Club 4; Jr.-Sr. Relay, Basketball 3,4; Sr. Reception 4; Girls' Outdoor Track 2,3,4. IVIichael Babineau Wild and crazy Babs can be found with friends Troop, Bruce, Bones, Barney, and Trip wherever there is music. His interests are guitar, piano, darts, and building in the woods. His favorite class — Music Theory with Mr. LaFosse. He is often heard saying I don't know and What's up big guy? He has never turned down a chance to see a good concert . . . BENEFIT CONCERT Lights . . . curtains . . . action! On Novenber 5, a benefit concert for the Jimmy Fund in the name of Tammy Davis was held in the school auditorium. The performance was a collective effort of the stage band and the group Amnesia. The audience turn-out exemplified the feeling of concern and unity at our school. Through the many contributions, more than $500 was raised for the Jimmy Fund. Susan Babineau She occupies her free time by swimming and listening to music. She is working toward the day when she will become a secretary. She would also like to teach children. That magic moment of holding her niece for the first time will always be cherished. Sue's best friend is Janine. James Badagliaca When not seen in the dean's office, James can be located actively taking part in the lunch room activities. His foremost interests are girls, football, and sleeping. His future intent is to become a mechanic. A.J. and Kevin are his best friends 21 Kelly Beaulac Kel is often seen at Friendly's with Lauren and Mary. She enjoys hiking, swimming, and talking on the phone. Most memorable moment — when the class of '81 beat the class of '80 in the competitive plays. Favorite teachers — Ms. Miller, Mr. Conlee, Mr. Bade. Cheerleader 2,3; Booster Club 4; Page 3; Jr.-Sr. Basketball 3.4: Jr.-Sr. Prom 2,3,4 : Sr. Reception 4; Thanks. Dance 2,4; Ski Club 2,3,4. Walter Beede Buzz's best memories of FHS are befriending Shifty and starting all sixty varsity baseball games. Always seen with Sarah. Baseball 2.3,4;X-Country 2; Football 3,4; Indoor Track 4; AFS 4; Booster Club 3,4; Jr.-Sr. Basketball, Relay, Prom 3,4; Sr. Reception 4; Thanks. Dance 3,4; Class Officer 3,4; Donkey Basketball 3,4; Homecoming Committee 4; Sr. Class Play 4; Student Advisory Board 3,4. Nicholas Behre It's censurable! Can be seen partying at the rock with friend Willie. Takes an intense interest in motorcycle riding. As of now, his future ambitions are still undecided. Social Psychology with Ms. Bicoules was his most liked class. Brenda Bellafiore Bren' enjoys outdoor sports such as hang gliding and sky diving. Rock music is another pastime. During the day she may be found with Lisa, or visiting Ms. DiPalma. Brenda is looking forw ard to graduation and becoming an Operating Room Technician. Sr. Reception 4. 22 Ellen Beloin Red may often be heard asking friends if they want to go to Espresso's for lunch. Around school she might be found with Lisa, Janine, Brenda, Linda, Karen, and Nicole. She is frequently caught partying and skiing. Getting a job was very important to her. While at FHS, she enjoyed psychology with Ms. Bicoules. Int'l Club 3; Sr. Reception 4. Bruce Benedict Bruce enjoys the company of Randy and Rick. His favorite sports are football, basketball, and fishing. He will always remember winning a basketball play-offs game for the championship. Going to McDonald's with friends took up most of his free time. In the future, Bruce hopes to work with air-conditioning and refrigeration. Jeffrey Bennett A great sports fanatic, Jeff spends his time bike-riding, golfing, and playing racquetball. He enjoys being with friends or he may be found at Friendly's, After graduation, he would like to study Political Science. Golf 4; Hockey 2,3,4; Soccer 2,3,4; Chorus 2,3,4; Concert Band 2,3,4; Marching Band 2,3,4; Boys' State 3; Jr.-Sr. Basketball, Relay 3,4; Relay Committee 3,4; Sr. Reception 4; Homecoming Committe 4; Sr. Class Play 4. Christopher Benoit Je ne sais pas. Chris' hobbies are photography, swimming, and bike-riding. Chris, who is reserved and quiet, always has a smile or something nice to say. Christopher hopes to go to a two-year business school. He is often seen at the library with his friends. Chris' favorite class was American Political Behavior with Mr. Desy. Swimming 3. Melissa Bergeron Mel is an outgoing and vibrant student. She enjoys rollerskating, ceramics and driving around. She can often be found at Whalom Lakefront with her friends Cindy, Wendy, and Sue. She looks forward to the magical moment of her Fitchburg High School graduation. Today is the first day of the rest of your life, is Mel's philosophy. A career as a cosmotologist or hairstylist is what she is aiming for . . . Chorus 2; Concert Band 3; Marching Band 3; Flag Squad 2. Karen Berube Twiggy can always be heard saying yeah right! Her interests include painting, cooking, and reading. After graduation, Karen plans to move to South Carolina and settle down. She can be found in the halls with Lisa, Kathy, Jodi, Heather, and Loise. Since attending Fitchburg High Karen's favorite class was City and State with Mr. Carchidi. Joseph Bevan Big Guy is an all around athlete and has participated in many sports while at Fitchburg High School. When not in a sporting event he might be found with Taps. His plans for the future are attending college to be an engineer. Stan-the-man Smith was his favorite teacher. Basketball 3; Jr.-Sr. Basketball 4; Jr.-Sr. Relay 3; Sr. Prom 4; Sr. Reception 4. Joy Bevan Joy, Homecoming Queen, revels being with her friends Karen, Nichole, and Charlene. Her future plans are to be a computer programmer. She can always be heard saying You never know! Homecoming 4. 23 by Linda Landry Lynne Blanchard Lynne s best friends include Donna and Kathy. She enjoys reading, listening to music, writing to pen-pals, biking, and mountain climbing. She hopes to further her education in languages, psychiatry, and philosophy. Sacre bleu and Mon dieu are her favorite sayings. Chorus 2: Flag Squad 2; Debating Club 2; Drama Club 2,3; Int I Club 2,3: Comp. Plays 2; Page 4: Sr. Reception 4; Thanks. Dance 2; Boulder 4. Lori Blanchette Lively and lovely, Lori prides herself on being actively involved in sports. She loves rock music, in particular, the group Led Zeppelin. Her after school hours take her to the bowling alley where she excels at her favorite sports. Best friends — Liz. Carol, Pam, and Tracy. She really loves the cafe! Sr. Reception 4. Cindy Blanchard Cindy is active in many school activities. When not enjoying herself at a class function she may be skiing, bike-riding, hiking, or traveling. In the future, she would like to go into the field of nursing or law. Booster Club 2,3,4; Int I Club 2,3; Page 4; Sr. Reception 4; Homecoming Committee 4 Kathryn Blanchard Blanch, an enthusiastic spirit of FHS, is actively involved in track. She enjoys running and collecting mushrooms. Her free time at school is spent hanging around the back doors or the fourth floor corridor with all her friends. Constantly avoiding Mrs. Maranda is a daily occurrence Blanch will always remember. Her favorite class is English with Mr. Bahde. Field Hockey 4; Indoor Track 3,4; Booster Club 4; Jr.-Sr. Relay 3.4; Sr. Reception 4; Outdoor Track 2,3,4; Raiderette 4. David Boccia Davia spends most of his time working at a large local grocery store. He can often be found aimlessly roaming the corridors. During school plays, David can be found in the cage. Being a clown, he loves to pose for photographs. College is a definite possibility in David's future. Linda Bolduc Sweet, spry, sincerely adorable, Linda jumps at every opportunity to display her talents as a cheerleader. Artistically inclined, she hopes to find a market for her artwork. She spends her summers at the beach soaking in the rays. Hobby — developing the perfect tan. After graduating from FHS, Linda plans to attend a business college. Cheerleader 2,3,4; Sr. Reception 4; Outdoor Track 3. 24 Donna Boucher Donna enjoys biking and reading. She is seen with Lynn, Sue, and Diana. She is often seen working at the Youth Library. Her favorite class is Advanced Math with Mr. Kalagher and is considering a career in computer programming. Most memorable moment — graduation. Chorus 2; Int'l Club 2,3; NHS 3,4; Sr. Reception 4 Janine Bourgault Janine's great personality and friendliness makes others want to be with her. She loves the afternoon soaps and can't wait to hear what happened to whom when she, by chance, misses an episode. She is a lover of animals and is a great homemaker in the making. Her first time up the rock — a blast! Future plans — airline stewardess. Sr. Reception 4. Elizabeth Bouvier Always smiling, happy- go-lucky, Bouv always makes her mark wherever she's seen or heard. She's the life of he party and loves to wear crazy hats! Future plans — to stop smoking and move out to the West Coast. A nature lover, Bouv spends much of her time camping out. Cheer up . . . there's no hope! Sr. Reception4 James Brassard Kwai Chang is addicted to mastering the art of karate. He is very sports-minded and has taken part in numerous activities; skiing . . . and swimming. His first day at FHS proved to be the most impressive moment he can remember. Sean, Kevin, Craig, and Jim often congregate with Kwai Chang at McDonald's. Football 2,3,4; Indoor Track 4; Track 2; Jr.-Sr. Basketball, Relay, Prom 4; Sr. Reception 4; Thanks. Dance 2,4; Donkey Basketball 4. David Bray I like Fitchburg, but I still want very much to travel. So says David as he makes his plans to visit other parts of the U.S. and possibly overseas. The military remains a definite possibility in his future. He loves photography and all of its ramifications and accoutrements. Int'l Club 2; Jr.-Sr. Relay 3,4; Sr. Reception 4. Roger Breau A true sports fan, Roger enjoys baseball, tennis, and hockey. Other pastimes include carpentry, being with friends David and Dave, and going to football and basketball games. When thinking about his high school years, Roger will always remember the Junior-Senior Basketball games. After graduation, he is planning to work with computers or in the field of housing and carpentry. Paul Brodeur To Beastie, music is very important. He will always remember going to Florida with the band as well as Mr. LaFosse's stage band class and performances. In the future he would like to be a guitarist in a rock band. Besides music he enjoys being with friends Jim and his girl Brenda. Chorus 2,3; Concert Band 2,3; Marching Band 2,3; Stage Band 2,4. Donna Brouillet Donna's varying interests reflect all facets of her personality. Her sunny smile and exuberant attitude towards life make her a favorite among friends. She can often be seen on the first floor. Donna's future lies in the field of secretarial and business management. 25 Lisa Burby In her spare time, Lis enjoys playing tennis, swimming and reading. She prides herself in her ability to communicate with younger children, and hopes to become a counselor or child psychologist. Jr. -Sr. Prom 4; Sr. Reception 4; Homecoming C? ' 'te 4 Michael Burke Soccer, racquetball, and chemistry are among Burkie s interests He hopes to become a chemist after spending some time in the Air Force. He is repeatedly heard uttering I'm so tired! He really enjoyed the band's trip to Florida in 1979 and is one of the founding fathers of the disc jockey group ' Music Masters ' Golf 3,4; Soccer 2,3.4; Chorus 2,3,4; Concert Band 2,3,4; Stage Band 3,4; Sr. Reception 4 Thomas Burns Burnzy ' loves to pass his time playing street hockey. He is often seen at K C Plastics. His best friend — Harry Thomas. Mr. Desy — his favorite teacher. Joining the Air Force is in the future for Bumzy. Baseball 3,4; Jr.-Sr. Basketball, Relay 3,4; Jr.-Sr. Prom 4; Sr. Reception 4; Thanks. Dance 4; Donkey Basketball 4. Jeffrey Brown Good-natured and amiable, Jeff is always willing to give a helping hand to a friend in need. Although his senior year was not spent at FHS, his absence was deeply felt. His summers are occupied with trips to Europe and to South America. He would like to become a traveling salesman, and eventually, independently rich. Hockey 2,3; Tennis 2,3; Relay Committee 3; Jr.-Sr. Relay 3; Jr.-Sr. Basketball 3. Heather Cairns Bowie IS enthralled by photography, disco dancing, rollerskating, and music. When not working at Demoulas, she is spending time with her friends Karen, Linda, Sue, and Wayne. She hopes to continue her education at Fisher College and become the world s fastest secretary. Favorite teacher-Mr. Romano. Lori Capone Moe enjoys horseback riding and swimming. She is frequently heard saying Hit the road and can be found in the second floor lobby with Lori, Louise, and Maryann. For her future, Lori plans a career in advertising. Cheerleader 2,3,4; Booster Club 4; Jr.-Sr. Basketball 3,4; Melissa Carlisle Missy spends a lot of her time playing pool and Softball. She IS looking forward to graduation with great anticipation. Her favorite sayings are Ohh Baby!!', and Aru-Aru. Missy is often seen at the cafeteria with her best friend Joyce. Accounting with Miss Donovan is her favorite class. Her future plans will include either being an accountant or a law enforcement officer. Rose Caron Rosie enjoys jogging, tennis, and rollerskating. Rosie's future ambition is to move to Florida and attend college. Memorable moments at FHS have been sharing her good and bad moments with her classmates. Jr.-Sr. Prom 4; Sr. Reception 4; Homecoming Committee 4. 26 HALLOWEEN DAY Leonard Carter Leonard's interests, being sports-oriented, include football and basketball. Happy memories remain of leaving Philadelphia and of being with friends Michael and Edward. His future ambition is to become a basketball star. Lenny has enjoyed his stay at FHS and says he will regret leaving. He is artistically inclined and very pleased with Mr. Lukas' art class. Masie Carter Hang in there! The worst is yet to come! Maze can be found around Fitchburg High with Lillian and Roxanne. Masie's interests include tennis, biking, and listening to music. She really enjoyed spending her time studying German. Wundebar! ' Julianne Casey If life is a banquet, I want to stuff myself. Lips enjoys politics, drama, parties, and Chinese food. She hopes to continue her education and become a wealthy lawyer. Tennis 2; Drama Club 2,3,4; Jr.-Sr. Relay, Basketball 4; Stage Band 2; Sr. Prom 4; Booster Club 2,3,4; Student Council 4; Competitive Plays 2.3.4. Mary Cefalo Mary is very active, participating in many school activities. Other pastimes include listening to James Taylor or being outside on a crisp Fall day. She is going to college for nutrition and psychology. Cheerleader 3,4; Tennis 4; Jr.-Sr. Relay, Prom 4; Homecoming Committee 4; Booster Club 4. Witches, warlocks, and black cats were among the many ghastly surprises lurking in the halls of Fitchburg High on the spookiest of spectral days, Halloween. Phantasmal figures of every size, shape, and color were oozing out of every crack and crevice of the school. Everywhere there could be seen unique, imaginative, drole beings such as Cousin It, Raggeddy Anne, an Iranian, a Playgirl Bunny, a gypsy, an enormous stuffed puppy dog. Were you one of these eerie specters? Elizabeth Celona Liz has many interests including writing poetry and short stories, gymnastics, and reading. Liz says her most memorable moment was finding the pool on the fifth floor. Cross Country 3,4; Indoor Track 2; Int'l Club 2; Page 4; Jr.-Sr. Basketball 3,4; Jr.-Sr. Relay 3,4; Sr. Class Play 4. Craig Chalifoux One of our football tri-captains, Foux enjoys sports, the beach, and woodworking. Craig's future ambition is to play college football and to enter the industrial arts field. He can be found around school with Sean, Kevin. Bob. and Big Jim. Baseball. Football 2.3.4; Basketball 3: Jr.-Sr. Relay 3; Sr. Reception 4. Keith Cheeseman Rich's parking lot is the most likely place to find Keith when he is not in school. Pete often accompanies Keith driving in his car or riding his motorcycle. Keith will always remember getting his first motorcycle, dreaming to someday own a Corvette. He enjoys spending his Sundays going to car races. James Ciuffetti Jim's advice to us is Don't take any wooden nickles. Main interest — fixing and riding motorcycles. Plans for the future include attending technical school after graduation. Alison Clarkin Al is often seen at the beach with Sue, Debbie, and Tracy. She also enjoys sports, skiing in particular. A career in medicine is what Al ' hopes for. Her favorite teacher — Mr. Putnam. Cheerleader 2,3,4; Booster Club 2,3,4; Int's Club 2; Jr-Sr. Relay 3,4; Jr.-Sr. Prom 4; Sr. Reception 4; Homecoming Committee 4; Donkey Basketball 4. Cindy Colburn Optimistic . . . friendly . . . Cindy enjoys true company of her many friends. She reflects her amiable personality through her quiet understanding. A student of the business world. Cindy plans to apply her aptitudes in the pursuit of a secretarial career. Roxanne Collymore Roxy' is often seen with Masie and Lillian at the library or in the park. She hopes for a career in the computer field. Roxy enjoys reading and sports. Her most memorable moment was her first day at Fitchburg High. Roxanne's favorite teachers are Mr. Kendall and Mrs. Gendron. A.F.S. 4. James Connolly Dancing Bear is often seen around school with Andy and John. Jim enjoys playing football listening to rock music, and driving. His favorite class — U.S. History with Mr. Desy. Football 2.3,4; Golf 2; Jr.-Sr. Basketball 4; Jr.-Sr. Prom 4; Sr. Reception 4. 28 Judith Cormier Modest . . . sensitive . . . quiet, Judy enjoys living life to its fullest. She is a good student and is aspiring to attend college. Being with friends Lisa and Como makes her free time interesting. Judy enjoys watching the afternoon soaps. After graduation she intends to further her education and get an interesting job. Kevin Crank Sports, especially football, hold Kevin's acute interest. He can always be found where the action is — with a large group of friends or at Crocker Field. Kevin finds school a challenge and intends to go to college. His free-spirit and rbbunctious personality make him stand out in a crowd. Football 2,3,4. Denise Croteau Hiking, snowmobiling, and tennis are among Denise s hobbies. She intends to go to college and receive a degree in science. She can be seen with Karen and Cheryl. Booster Club 3,4; Jr.-Sr. Relay 4; Flag Squad 2; Homecoming Committee 4: Sr. Reception 4. Louise Croteau Louise can often be found at locker number 3331 with Ray and Karen. Interests include swimming, jogging, and acting. Her most memorable moment upon entering F.H.S. was attending the Jr.-Sr. Prom Louise's favorite class was Office Practice with Mr. Doran. Cheerleader 4; Chorus 2; Flag Squad 2; Jr.-Sr. Basketball, Relay, Prom 3,4; Sr. Reception 4; Thanks. Dance 3,4; Marching Band 2. Maura Conry Moe enjoys music, Softball, and movies. Future ambitions include college and marriage. Special memories will always remain of being with the band in Florida. Maura can be found around F.H.S. with Nancy, Tina, and Cathy. Softball 2,3,4; Stage band 3,4; Concert Band 2; Marching Band 2; Jr.-Sr. Basketball, Relay 4; Boulder 4. Andrew Coombs Andy's most memorable moment since entering F.H.S. will be his graduation. Andy, our raider, can be found at the back of the second floor lobby. His future ambition is to attend college after graduation. Basketball 2,3,4; Football 2,3,4; Jr.-Sr. Relay 3,4; Sr. Reception 4; Competitive Plays 2. by Linda Landry Brenda Cormier Bren enjoys tennis, basketball, traveling, and listening to music. She looks upon graduation day as the take-off of her career, becoming a flight attendant. She is usually seen with Brenda. Val, and Sue. Basketball 2; Tennis 2,3,4; Jr.-Sr. Basketball, Relay 4; Sr. Reception 4; Sr. Class Play 4. Christine Cormier If you want something bad enough, it's yours. Cheerleader 2,3,4; Track 2,3,4; Marching Band 3,4; Booster Club 4; NHS 3,4; Jr.-Sr. Basketball, Relay, Prom 3,4; Relay Committee 3,4; Sr. Reception 4; Thanks. David Cormier Besides participating in school sports, David also may be found with friends David and Roger hunting or biking. Mechanical Drawing is preparing him for the engineering field. Jr.-Sr. Basketball 3,4; Jr.-Sr. Relay 3,4; Jr.-Sr. Prom 3,4; Sr. Reception 4; Thanks. Dance 4. Denise Cormier For Dee,' Miss Bic's Psyche class has been 'a slice of heaven. Kristie and Mona may accompany Dee downtown or in many of her favorite sports. Painting is also a common pastime and fond memories will always remain of the Sr. Reception to the faculty. She is planning a career in nursing. Cheerleader 2; X-Country 3; Softball 2; Jr.-Sr. Relay 3,4; Sr. Reception 4. ! James Crowley Jim enjoys life's many opportunities and takes life as It comes. Favorite quote: A chain is as strong as its weakest link. He loves all kinds of sports, especially bicycling and flying. He hopes to become an Air Force pilot. Favorite class — computer programming. X-Country 3; I Indoor Track 3; Track 3; Jr.-Sr. Relay 3,4; Boulder 4. Kelly Cummings If you loves something, set it free. If it comes back to you, it is yours. If it doesn't, it never was. Quiet, unassuming, intelligent ... a good friend. She hopes to become an executive secretary w orking for the president of a large company or corporation. Majorette 2,3. Yvonne Dabney Yvonne's interests are in Softball and in watching hockey games. She and her friends, the class of 80, are usually all over the school but she occasionally stops her journey at the back entrance of the high school. She wants to graduate very soon because she is repeatedly saying: I can t wait to graduate, but she will miss Mr. Wright. Yvonne's future plans are undecided at this time. Jeffrey Daley Sociable . . . outgoing . . . Jeff is talented in a multitude of areas. He enjoys meeting new people and he makes friends easily with his radiating smile. Jeff's sense of humor is what makes him welcome in all crowds. He is active both as a spectator and as an occasional participant in all activities.
