A wide knowledge in many areas is essential in today's rapidly changing world. The opportunity to read and gain knowledge is at our fingertips, if we will take advantage of it. The library provides an extensive range of information in a vast number of subjects from which students can build a founda- tion to project the ideals and beliefs of a new genera- tion. Guidance Offers Plans For The Expanded educational opportunities have opened millions of new jobs to today's youth. With the easier availability of a college education or of many kinds of vocational training, an individual finds many more vocational opportunities within his reach than he would have found fifty or even twenty years ago. In addition to the number and variety of jobs today, the employment situation is made more complex as some jobs become obsolete while other jobs come more into demand. Because of this complexity, vocational and college guidance has become a necessity. High-school guidance departments are using techniques employed by professional job-counseling services to advise those seeking careers. Equipped with data on employment trends, guidance specialists, after testing an individual for special interests and attitudes, can suggest appropriate edu- cational and vocational programs. Thus, with the benefit of excellent guidance, students entering the work world or higher institutions of learning can satisfy their personal need for fulfillment and eventually contribute most effectively to society. Mathematics — The Foundation For Modern Research Numbers, specific, and systematic, form the intricate and ever-broadening study of mathematics. As an understanding of our number system and its applications increases, we become better equipped to probe our universe, for every aspect of science is based upon the fundamentals of mathematics. Scientists, now specializing in specific areas of their field, are exploring each mystery more and more meticulously and are continually relying on mathematical principles. Through this unity we have realized the possibility of space exploration and carried out tremendous experiments successfully. Yet, in the field of mathematics loom many obscurities. Only through con- centrated study can we eliminate these obscurities and pave the way to even greater knowledge. With a solid understanding of the mechanics of mathematics, we are prepared to accept that challenge and to contribute to the progression of mathematical research. Nicholas G.
