Business Department r V Miss Madeline M. Donovan Department Head Vocational in concept, the Business Department trains students in busi- ness skills and gives them experience in office work. The secretarial program stresses stenography and office practice, while the clerical pro- gram excludes these courses and offers instead other electives to those more interested in bookkeeping. The part-time program enables above- average students to gain experience by doing actual office work during school hours. Typing Special, the only non-vocational course of the pro- gram, is offered to college-course freshmen. The Business Department insists upon and maintains quality by re- quiring students to earn at least a C average in order to take more advanced courses, such as stenography, typing, and bookkeeping. In this way the Business Department produces creditable workers, well pre- pared for business careers after graduation. Joseph J. Buono The part-timers. Miss Augusta Cottone Mrs. Kathryn M. Crain Miss Eleanor Dinkin Miss Maryann DiPalma

■ English Department Miss Lillian M. Taylor Department He ad Under the direction of Miss Lillian M. Taylor, the English Depart- ment of Fitchburg High School develops students intellectually, socially, and aesthetically through the study and interpretation of literature. To help us learn to live with other human beings, an understanding of human nature has been stressed in our English courses throughout our four years of high school. Our English teachers have strived to encourage our special creativity in expression, logical thinking, critical judgment, and personal knowledge and to instill in us an appreciation of our literary heritage.
