Social Science In a world shrunk by technological advances the study of the social sciences is a necessity for every world citizen. The Social Science Department attempts to broaden understanding not only of our own history and development but also of history and development of other nations. By studying American history and government, we acquire a keen appre- ciation of our heritage; in addition, we realize the sacrifices necessary for the development of freedom. The knowledge of foreign governments and peoples prepares us for a richer life by making us more conscious of the economic, political, and social problems of today's world. These are the goals of our Social Science Department— goals well achieved. A Social Science Department Assembly featured this panel of Seniors. HAROLD L. FLYNN 24

Vocational Since almost all of today's jobs require highly-skilled and well-educated tech- nicians, the Vocational Education Department has developed a unique program of schooling for boys in grades ten through twelve. Half of the school day is devoted to actual shop work while the other half is used for classroom instruction. In shops equipped with the newest facilities and set up to resemble actual in- dustrial operations, the boys study Automobile Mechanics, Electrical Work, Machine Shop Work, or Woodworking. Classroom time is spent on such subjects as English, United States History, Algebra, Physics, and Consumer Economics, all of which are specifically oriented for a vocational career. By offering an excellent job placement service, the Vocational Department continues to assist the boys even after grad- uation. This well-rounded program provides industry with highly competent and well- educated workers who are ready to assume responsibilities and to aid in progress. A posed picture? A. JOHN ASHTON PAUL R.
