Our Principal Stephen T. Woodbury To the Class of 1965: Abraham Lincoln stated one hundred years ago that The dogmas o£ the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our cause is new, so we must think anew and act anew. President Johnson recently said, We are now embarked on another venture to put the American dream to work in meeting the new demands of a new day. Once again we must start where men who would improve their society have always known they must begin - with a.n educational system re- studied, reinforced, and revitalized. Words such as automation and cybernetics art new but they are hero to stay. Some changes in our society which are manifested by unemployment, poverty and social unrest, have as their moving force the thrust of technology. The individual must be trained to think courageously enough to face up to life's complexities. The only ethical training for mature life is the training that includes the experience of being both free and responsible. We hope you have learned what the verities of a fruitful life are. They surely are the anchors which form the foundations of the faith that man needs to attain happiness and satisfaction.
