Remember the first day of school and the assembly for incoming students in the auditorium? How proud we felt and yet how awed we were by the mighty Seniors ! Those first few days were really hectic. We soon learned, however, all ai)out the fifth floor, the rotating bell schedule and the special significance of room 103. Soon discovering that Freshmen were considered socially and intellectually inferior to upper classmen, we set about with determination to disprove this theory. Our Freshmen year passed quickly and before we knew it, we were Sophomores and had representatives on the football, basketball, baseball, and track teams, in the Student Council, among the cheerleaders, and in the Sophomore competitive play. As Sophomores we established ourself firmly as a class with an abundance of spirit and initiative. The next year, our Junior year, we elected class officers and a class advisor and officially began to claim our share of recognition. We started the year off right, as far as sports were concerned, by winning the Fitchburg-Leominster football game. We made a good showing in the Competitive Plays with Soap Opera, then we under- took the Junior-Senior Christmas Party, and, after that, our beautiful Junior Prom, A Touch of Paris. In March we started rehearsals for our Junior-Senior Reception. We ll never forget how hilarious the boys were in those ballet costumes! During this time, our Junior boys were practicing every day in order to get in shape for the relay. That was a wonderful day! The stands were packed with loyal classmates waving green and white banners, cheering the boys on to victory until they were hoarse. W'e were so happy, we could think of nothing else for days afterwards. In June we also had our Junior Field Day. Remember the egg-throwing con- test? What a mess! Soon the class of '52 graduated and we could scarcely believe that we, ourselves, were finally the Mighty Seniors. We realized our growing responsibilities and under the leadership of our class officers: Jim Ruberti, Joan Mercier, Jean Kerrigan, Terry Rixford, and our class advisor, Mr. Griffiths, we started our rewarding climb up the ladder of fame as the ideal Senior class. 'I he Variety Revue was a big success as was our Reception to the Faculty, held at Saima I 'ark. Next came our Harvest Festival at which everyone had a marvelous time in their old dungarees. 64 The BOULDER . . . 1953 On Thanksgiving Day the Fitchburg-Leominster game was held as usual and spirit was very high. Although our boys played a good game, we lost. The dance that night, with its attractive decorations, helped to liven up our spirits and proved to be successful. In January our class presented The Informer as their winning contribution to the Competitive Plays. Shortly afterwards the class play The Man Who Came to Dinner went into rehearsal for presentation on April 10. The cast will never forget all those faces Mr. Whiteside made I As our Senior year draws to an end, we have yet to win our second relay and present our Senior Prom, Fantasy in Dreamland. After we graduate, our happy years at F. H. S. will remain as pleasant memories to be retained in all our minds. Throughout our lives, we shall never forget our days together. 65 Ted Aho — wild game hunter Francis Anderson — wig-maker Nancy Anderson — secretary Robert Anderson — deck-swabber June Andzenas — U. Thibault, Office . ssi5tants The BOULDER . . . 1953 NOEMIE LASRY Noemie, or Mimi, as she is more familiarly called, came to us in the midst of our senior year from Casablanca, in French Morocco. She immediately became well known and admired among the students in F. H. S. Her aptitude for foreign languages enabled her to quickly adopt our American ways and join in all our activities. Enjoyable to talk with, Mimi has shown us true European graciousness and has fascinated us with her charming dignity. Mimi, we, the class of 1953, have been proud to call you one of our own and we are grateful to you for the friendship and charm which you have shared with us. 107 The BOULDER . . . 1953 Late News Bulletins Seniors eligible for a Gold F award at the end of the first semester include: Ruth Bray and Thomas Lekas were nominated for class speaker on graduation night. Thomas Lekas was selected as class speaker. Senior winners of the Humane Essay during Be Kind to Animals week were: first prize, Nancy Kean; second prize, Barbara Bebick; best over-all, Nancy Kean. From April 25 to May 2 many of the Seniors made the annual trip to Wash- ington, D. C. with Mr. Herbert P. Sullivan. It was an event which will be long remembered. Stopping off places included New York City, Philadelphia, and many other historic and interesting spots along the way. Mr. Sullivan was aided with the supervision by Mr. Carl W. Perkins. The annual Junior-Senior Relay is to be held at Crocker Field on June 12, 1953, at 5 p. m. After defeating the class of 1952 last year, we are hopefully looking forward to another victory this year. However, competition is keen and the race promises to be a close one. The preparations for the Senior Prom Fantasy in Dreamland are nearing com- pletion as we go to press. The Prom is to be held June 5, 1953 and the beautiful decorations carry out the theme of an imaginary dreamland.
