A. Schliefer: I didn't knock him down. I stopped my car to let him across, and he must have fainted. Betty Woods: What is this funny key on your typewriter? Mine doesn't have one like it. M. Rothman: 'Oh, that's my own invention. When I can't spell a word, I just use that key. It makes a blur that could be any letter. Jerry Conley, who had gotten no bites, entered the ftsh market. Jerry: Joe, stand over there and toss me five of your biggest trout, will you? Clerk: Yes, sir, but why toss them? Jerry: I want to tell my family that I caught them. Betty Goss: Sure, I'll come with you. Just wait till I change these tratfic-cop shoes of mine. Dana Goodwin: Traffic-cop? Why do you call them that? Betty: Because everything's all right while I keep going, but if I park anywhere too long, they pinch me. Lois Stevenson: I don't understand it. Dr. Smith absolutely refuses to prescribe for me. He started by saying that in my condition I ought to take a daily walk on an empty stomach and then — Quintino Rollo: And then what? What did you say? Lois: Why, I simply asked, 'Whose?' Miss Dunn: Why, this is the same story I turned down last week. il Arthur Willard: I know, I just thought I'd give you one more chance. Robert Mattia: Are you the barber who cut my hair last time? Barber (doubtfully) : I — I'm not sure. Sir, I've only been here six months. Boss: How did you happen to oversleep this morning? Willy Klier: There were eight of us in the house, Sir, and the alarm was set for seven. Dorothy Miller: Wouldn't you like to be famous enough to get your face on a thousand dollar bill? Naomi Rafer: Not me, I'd just like to be lucky enough to get my hand on one. Page 83 BOULDER 1941 Ruth Whiston: How are you getting along with your writing for the magazine? Laura Higgins: Just holding my own. They send me back as much as I send them. Mr. Woodbury: Now, Bob, which month has 28 days.- Robert Rice (after long pause) : They all have. Mary Gelep: I've had my nose broken three times and each time it was in the same place. Joan Thomas: I should think you'd learn to keep your nose out of that place. Miss Nason: Dorothy, I'm surprised at you. Why did you try to sneak that toast out of Home Economics class? Dorothy Goldman: Please, teacher, I wanted to make some charcoal sketches. Mr. Baldwin: What did your boss say when you asked him for a raise? John: He took it like a lamb. Mr. Baldwin: Yes, but what did he say? John: Bah. TIMES HAVE CHANGED One hundred years ago today, A wilderness stood here. A man with powder in his gun Went forth to hunt a deer. But now the times have changed somewhat And are in a different plan, For a dear with powder on her nose. Goes forth to hunt a man. CONSISTENT He: Shall we waltz? She: It's all the same to me. He: So I notice. TRAPPED First Golfer: The traps on this course are certainly irritating. Second Golfer (trying to pull) : Yes, they are. Would you mind closing yours? The horn on your car must be broken. No, it's just indifferent. It doesn't give a hoot! Pa e 84 Page 85 BOULDER 1941 Kitty: Whenever I'm down in the dumps, I buy myself a new hat. Cat: Oh, so that's where you get them. A peach at his right — A nut at the wheel — A turn in the road — Fruit salad! Professor: Young man, how many times have I told you to get to class on time? Student: I don't know, I thought you were keeping score. OLD LOVE The other day I chanced to meet A love of days gone by, And as I gazed into his face I vainly wondered why I once had thought myself in love With such an oaf as he! And no doubt that he was thinking The self-same thmg of me. Doris Jensen: I don't know, but Bea Bull ought to wear pumps because she's got water on the knee. Teacher: Class, this morning we shall learn that very beautiful song Danny Boy. Now repeat the first lie after me. Oh Danny Boy the pipes, the pipes are calling thee'. Little boy in the class: Teacher, was Danny a plumber?
