BOULDER 1940 Frank Benjamen Hurvitz q A true friend is forever a friend. Frank is one of the youngest members of the class as the result of a double promotion which he received while in the grades. He is a member of several social organizations, among them the Y.P.H.A., and takes an active interest in both dramatics and sports. He intends to study business administration. Competitive Plays, Tennis, Senior Class Play 4. Andrew Husari Use the little to get the big. Last year, Andy had a hard time defending the noted town of Westminster against the disparaging remarks of Mr. Dillon, but came through as succ;ssfully as his famous townsman, General Miles. In addition to this accomplishment, Andy ran a very good race in the Junior-Senior Relay and gave a fine exhibition of tennis in the fall tournament. Debating Club 2, 3, 4, Dramatic Club 2, 4, Motto Committee 3, Latin Club 3, 4. Arthur Arne Hyvonen Opportunities are more powerful than conquerors. Arthur may be considered a rabid candid camera fan, for photo- graphy is his hobby. During his high school days, he has mixed well by joining various clubs. Underneath his quiet appearance he has a fun-loving disposition, that is enjoyed by everyone. His ambi- tion is to join the Navy. Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4, Glee Club 4. Donald Bruce Jeffery A good countenance is a letter of recommendation. Aviation has at least one ardent disciple in Fitchburg — Donald. In addition to constructing quantities of model planes, he follows the progress of aeronautics for its practical value, since he plans to take up some phase of this subject as his work. If lie carries out this intention, the musical world may be the loser, for Don has been a member of both band and orchestra for the past three years. Band Orchestra 2, 3, 4, French Club 2 Nancy Elisabeth Johnson For the more a maid knows, The more worthy she is. Nancy is the able and efficient secretary of the Dramatic Club. She has enjoyed the sunshine in her favorite state, Florida, many winters while we have shivered here in the north. She enjoys drink- ing cokes down at Brooks'. Nancy doesn't believe in hats, but wears paisley kerchiefs. Over the week-ends Nancy disappears to help her mother who manages The Princeton Coffee House. Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4, Ring Committee 3. Emily Dagmar Jokelyn Gentle in manner, firm in reality. Emily's tall blond beauty adds a great deal to the attractiveness of our class. Emily is a very conscientious student. She is a member of the Reipas Junior Girls' Club. Dramatic Club, Class Play, Ticket Committee 4. Dorothy Mary Jordan A merry heart doeth good like a medicine. Dolly is a happy-go-lucky young lady, apparently without a care in the world. Her smile and personality make her friendly and likable. She is very interested in art and photography. Dolly is one of the fortunate few who have beautiful copper red hair. Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4, Debating Club 3, 4. Maila Lovisa Jorma A little nonsense now and then Is relished by the best of men. Maila is one of those happy-go-lucky students whose gay spirits are always contagious. She is often seen with a noisy group of girls. Two of her many assets are her pink cheeks and lovely complexion. BOULDER 1940 Robert Alexander Hay A jaithjul jriend is the true image of the deity. Watch for a beachwagon full of boys and at night full of girls if you want to find Robert. His delight in moonlit nights — any ht is okay, however — probably accounts for the fact that his Hbfne work is usually incomplete when he arrives at school, so in panish class he has to do his math and so on. Raefield Millard Hicks Virtue is the path of praise. Industrious is the word for Raefield. When he was a small boy he collected newspapers, later he worked on a truck farm, and now he is helping his father construct buildings. This early training will aid him greatly when he becomes a man of the world for he should know how to work hard and efficiently. Band 2, 3, 4. Robert Usher Holden The more a man knows, the less he talks. Bobs name has been one of the most frequent on the special honor roll. He was co-editor of the Red and Gray and took an active part in the French and Latin clubs, serving as Consul in the latter. He has a diversity of hobbies, including in his repertoire flower gardening, airplane modeling, collecting stamps and antiques. His fluency and ability to comprehend subjects should help him become a successful lawyer. French Club 2, 3, 4, Junior-Senior Reception 3, Red and Gray Board, Latin Club 3, 4, School Council, Round Table, Write-up Committee, Co-editor Red and Gray 4. Zygmcnt Holtz Character makes one great in all conditions. Ziggie as we all know him, has one pet aversion — Spanish. Although he conjugates verbs with unerring accuracy, when it comes to vocabulary and translation he seems to take a nosedive. During his spare time he may be seen industriously grubbing away in the good earth at Pierce's Greenhouse. His hobby is making model air- planes. After graduation he plans to be a truck-driver. Gym team 3. Barbara Lorraine Jackson She relishes a joke, and delights in a pun. Barb is a very popular member of our class. Although she hails from the country. West Fitchburg, she is very active in school sports. She has helped her team many times to win a basketball game. Bar- ba.a's favorite subject is stenography. We do not know whether the teacher has anything to do with this or not. Councillor 2, Hockey, Basketball, Volleyball, Deck Tennis 2, 3, 4, Archery 3, 4, Dramatic Club 4, Thanksgiving Dance Committee 4. Eila Ingrid Janhunen Let your conscience be your guide. At some time within the past year didn't you hear some boy saying, She's all right ? If you did, chances were that he was speaking about Eila, a popular member of our class. Eila formerly went to Gardner High but changed to Fitchburg in her junior year. Dramatic Club, Councillor, Marshal 4. Doris Ruth Jena Be sure you are right, then go ahead. Because of her good nature and carefree manner. Doris is popu- lar with everyone. Her leisure hours are spent in soap sculpturing. Her interest in sports has not been too great, but nevertheless, hearty and enthusiastic. She expects to be a hairdresser. Basketball, Volley- ball 2, 3, 4, Hockey 2, 4. Edith Gertrude Jenkins Often seen, but seldom heard. Edith is a quiet girl who blushes every time someone speaks to her. She likes all sports, especially basketball. She is a member of the Girl Scouts and the Rainbow. Edith's desire after graduation is to become a sewing teacher. Her hobby is sewing and she is known to be quite skillful with the needle. BOULDER 1940 Donald Milford Johnson Jf Nothing is more adroit than irreproachable conduct. ' Donald is a thrifty student who earns his money by selling newspapers. He is interested in electricity and hopes to make it his life work. He has Edison for his example, and if he works with the vigor and persistence of this great inventor, we are sure Donald will make a success of himself. Radio Club, Intramural Basketball 2. Herbert Samuel Jones A cheerful countenance betokens a good heart. Wimpy, one of the Jones boys, has become a popular member of cur class through his friendly smile and winning ways. VX'hen we hear a hearty laugh in the corridor, we know that Wimpy's around. His collegiate clothes and hair-clip give him distinction. He plans io fur her his education by entering college next fall. Junior-Senior Reception Play 3, Dramatic Club 3, 4. Robert Kendall Kenyon A happy heart makes a blooming visage. Bob is a quiet fellow who seems to have a flair for the finer things of life. Contrary to popular belief all seniors are not jitter- bugs and here is one who proves that statement. His tastes run to drawing, poetry, and the collection of match covers, of which he has quite a number. He also plays a trumpet and is in the school band where he does his part at rallies and school functions. After gradua- tion he hopes to organize an orchestra of his own. Basketball, Base- ball 2. Uuno Alexander Koittila Virtue is the most beautiful apparel. In spite of his quietness Uuno can be thanked very often for saving the day in class recitations. Whenever called upon in class he always has the right answers. He certainly never neglects his studies. He wants to be a mechanic after graduation. Ellen Irene Kalinen Quiet talk she liketh best. Although a person of small stature, Ellen makes up for her size in other ways. She has played a dual role during her high school years. Not only has Ellen proved her worth by participating in sports, but she has also shown efficiency in her work at the library. Besides these extra activities, she finds time to do soap sculpturing as a hobby. Hockey 2, Basketball 2. 3, Volleyball 3. Gloria Irene Kangas O. this learning, what a thing it is! As is usually true with blond-haired girls, Gloria excels in blushing. She is proving her commercial ability by working in the office of The Fitchburg Furniture Company, after school hours. Gloria is Miss Mattson's efficient assistant. She aims to develop her vocabu- lary, and for that reason, spends many hours attempting cross-word puzzles. After graduation, Gloria intends to continue office work. Florence Fostine Kopsiaftis Health and cheerfulness mutually beget each other. This smiling young lady is very much sports-minded! During her high school years she has taken part in nearly all sport activities. Outside of school, dancing and swimming are her favorite hobbies. She is also very active in the Girl Scouts. Flo's great ambition is to become a nurse! Basketball 2, 3, Class Color Committee 3, French Club, Dramatic Club 3, 4. Phyllis Krauss Imbued with conscientious thoroughness. Phyllis is a very quiet girl, but, to be sure, her quietness shows marvelous results in her marks. In her outside activities you may see the good sportsmanship which she shows.
